Hellway 2 Players Edition I am opening this topic as a personal development blog, of a derivative work of Hellway. The final objective is to make a true multiplayer version of Hellway, with each player having a consistent view of the world and their cars interacting. This is possible because the game state of Hellway is deterministic. It is like the screen is just a view of a world, and completely consistent regarding position and time. I am doing this by drawing 2 screens, alternating between left and right side each frame. From all my tests, the game is perfectly playable and a constant 30hz flicker totally ok. I am planning to evolve the game physics for the 2 players every frame, so the game keep the same control responsiveness. To make this solution work, I had to remove one car lane, remove parallax, and remove the end game decimal counters, but the essence of the game is fully kept. The way I shift everything is quite unusual, for the sake of simplicity I do 10 HMOVE with the value of 8, moving everything half screen, while keeping the relative position of everything intact. The playfield borders I use async playfield, but for the lack of cycles, I just do it once in my 3 lines kernel, I write once, and erase once before it leaks to the other side of the screen, and that explains the border pattern you see. Since the screen is flickering and the colors have less intensity, dark mode became the default. I considered making a horizontal engine to avoid flickering, but this would mean to rewrite everything. Each lane currently works as a free vertical canvas area, where any car pattern can be draw. An horizontal engine would have a limited set of patterns, loosing the game identity in the process. Hellway 2PE does not try to replace the original, which runs without flicker, have detail statistics, border effects and a plus cart version. It tries to run well enough and allow two people to play together, with the trill of the chase and overtake. It is also to be a technical challenge for me to run the 2 games at the same time without additional hardware. Links: https://github.com/opbokel/hellway2pe (Git Repo) https://github.com/opbokel/hellway2pe/blob/main/bin/hellway2pe.asm.bin?raw=true (Binary, always the latest version) https://javatari.org/?ROM=https://github.com/opbokel/hellway2pe/blob/main/bin/hellway2pe.asm.bin?raw=true (Javatari link) Main Road Map: - Use the directional to change car type for each player - Process player 2 controller and game state. - Collision Part 1, the second player should crash with the environment. - Process players relative position. - Recreate the hud to display information for both players. - Recreate Score screen with relevant information for a 2 players game, without additional RAM usage (currently broken from the removal of decimal counters) - Collision Part 2, the player behind crashes. - Collision Part 3, a players while invincible by a checkpoint, can "kill" a non invincible player - Solve consistence in random game modes. - Any other adjustment, fine tuning and feature... I am trying to answer 2 things with this post: - Do you think the game still playable at 30hz? Everybody that can do a quick test (real hardware or not) please post your experience on this early version. Your opinion is much appreciated! - Is it the first split screen game with players interaction? After some research I found some example of games, but none of them the players can direct interact. They play the game at the same time and have separated scores and screens, but cannot kill each other, crash into each other or see the other player in their own screen. If you know any game that does this, please post. Thank you all!

Game Released: https://atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1250 ======================================= Hello, I finally have a game to show, after having the project sleeping for many years, it is a fully playable game. Now, with the core of the engine done, I am working on the game variations and additional features. It is a top down racing game with a fully deterministic infinity road, each track with its own speed. I would love if any of you can test the game, and give a sincere opinion. All details about it are here: https://github.com/opbokel/hellway From my repo it can be downloaded or played online (direct links bellow). Play online https://javatari.org/?ROM=https://github.com/opbokel/hellway/raw/master/bin/hellway.asm.bin ROM https://github.com/opbokel/hellway/raw/master/bin/hellway.asm.bin The game update automatically every commit I do on my git master branch, so, the links are always in the latest version. I want soon to publish as a physical cartridge and donate all profit. If someone from AtariAge can contact me, I really appreciate. Have a very nice day, I hope you like the game. I've heard some good things about the Genesis's racing games library, and with my recent acquisition of my very own console, I was hoping that some of y'all could fill me in on some of the good racing games to try. I've currently got Super Monaco GP, and Hard Drivin' in my collection, I'm just curious as to what else I could add in the future. Sports games are a genre I haven't really dabbled in much, but from what I've heard, the Genesis is basically the go-to console for 90s sports games. Seriously, from what I can tell there were an ungodly amount of sports games released for it. With that said, what do you think the best ones are?

Hello. Im interested in primarily racing games. Im new to emulators and all the pies out there. From what ive learned so far. I have lowered my expectations and narrowed down my goals i guess you can say. im looking for some insight and direction on what emulator specs i should not live without. If trying to use an emulator that will run racing games old as i can find and as new as ps1, xbox360 and psp. im under the impression that any newer than that i will need more money for a better emulator. thank you.

Greetings fellow Atarians! This summer I felt like trying something new after discovering the updated 512kb template for cc65 on the programming forum. Today I present you a demo on which I started to work in September and showed at ejagfest this year. It's work in progress and comes with its share of imperfections, but I wanted to share something with you before Christmas. I want to thank my friend PixlJuice for his excellent pixelart and DerLuchs for providing a kickass chiptune! >>> Download <<< Happy holidays and see you all in 2019 again!

There is an event which officially starts tomorrow called "Final Fantasy Fiesta". Homepage and information here: https://www.fffiesta.com/ In this event, two Twitch Streamers/Speedrunners, BackgroundGuy02 and SevenS1ns, will be racing against each other in an attempt to be the first to finish/beat every major Final Fantasy title starting at the original Final Fantasy all the way to Final Fantasy XV, all played on original hardware (handhelds, consoles, computers) but focusing on the remakes and sequels when possible. Donations are not required to watch and partake in the event but you will need a Twitch.tv account to be able to chat and interact with other viewers. Each game will have unique challenges and additional conditions for each game as donations goals are reached as detailed on the Fiesta website. The overlaying rule for the entire Fiesta is that there is no escaping/running from ANY fight (unless the story line demands it in those very rare cases). Today begins what is considered the "Day Zero" where you can start donating towards incentive and character names for each game being made available in a first come, first served manner. Hope to see you there!!

Whats the best "fun" racing game on the PS3? I'm really a fan of the old Need for Speed games where the cops chase you. Anything like that that truly kicks butt on the PS3? I used to be into the Grand Turismo, F1 and simulator type games but the time and general dullness of them no longer appeals to me. Thanks in advance. By the way open to any kind of racing....cars, trucks, boats, atvs, on road or off...

Just purchased this...anyone have any fond memories? I'm a big fan of power drive rally on the Jaguar so i figured I couldn't go wrong with this one.

I've been doing some research on Atari 2600 controllers recently, because of a project I'm starting in 2 months or so. And I have a few questions for you guys, that no doubt know a lot more than I do on the subject matter. 1) Let's start easy: the CX-50 Keyboard Controllers, the Star Raiders video touch pad and the Kid's Controller are practically the same thing, there's only external differences right? 2) The trackballs. I've seen 2 different ones, the CX-22 and the Pro-Line. And correct me if I'm wrong but, not counting hacks, there are no original 2600 games that support the trackballs in "trackball mode", right? They only work when the trackballs behave like joysticks, is that right? 3) This one's about Wico joysticks, the Command Control ones. They are high-quality controllers, I've heard, with metal base and stick, and internally they use leaf switches. I've seen how leaf switches work, and they seem very easy to repair, if they ever malfunction. So I'm asking Wico owners here: how good are these Joysticks? I think they look cool, and maybe I'll buy one (or two) in the future, but give me some feedback first. 4) I own a pair of Atari Flashback 3 Joysticks. They should work just like regular CX-40 Joysticks, right? 5) I've seen sites selling new reproductions of Atari joysticks. Is anyone making repro paddles out there? 6) This one is less important, but I'm curious: can you use joysticks to play Indy 500? Or does it only work with racing controllers? Well, that's all for now. Also, tell me if there's some other controller that I should check out, I like controllers

Hi, I recently got Super Burnout and was wondering a few things about the strategies needed to win at it. First, for some reason I cannot get better than 6th or so in the america track, no matter which bike I choose (not counting cheats). I haven't found any of the other courses to be as challenging, with the drones seeming much weaker on the others. What's the secret here? Did they really start off the championship with the hardest course or am I missing something? Second, does taking the inside of a turn actually shorten the distance through the curve that you have to traverse (like in real life), or are you just less likely to slide off? The manual hints that taking the inside might actually shorten the curve, which would be a first for a pseudo-3d back view game like this (afaik) I found a good guide here.. any good strategies I should know that aren't mentioned there? http://www.gamefaqs.com/jaguar/586905-super-burnout/faqs/55195 (and, full disclosure, I'm only scoring a D in the championship so far haha. Guess I have a long way to go) Thanks all
