Pierre Sarrazin decided to solve this conundrum by making his own versions of these classic games. Originally made for Linux, these reproductions are of higher resolution than the originals, even if the gameplay isn't *quite* as good. (Can a game ever be better than when it's on a classic system? ) Unofficial Windows ports are also available.
