First game you've ever owned

The first game I every owned was Keystone Kapers believe it or not. On Christmas 1985 I recieved a atari 2600 with no games. I was very happy to own my very first system even though I didn't even ask for it but I was a little disapointed that the system didn't include a game. So my mom gave my money for a game to buy and I had no clue what game to get since there wasn't internet or magazines that I heard of. I just went by hunch and looked at the back of each box carefully and thought Keystone Kapers looked pretty cool. Little did I know I would play this game for about 1 year straight and the next game I got was christmas 1986.

The first game I ever owned is possibly Thexder by Sierra. It would certainly be a PC game of that vintage, maybe an Accolade title.

The first game I ever played would have been Adventure or Hunt the Wumpus on a DEC 10. From there I moved to Ladder on a CPM Kaypro II. This was back when a substantial percentage of games in the wild were not something you owned, so much as compiled. Not long after I would have gained exposure to Space Invaders on a friend's 2600.

o fcourse all our atari 2600s came with combat. so long as it was when it was in its prime. but the first game i got to pick out on my own was barnstorming. . i still remeber the amazement of buying a new atari game. of course when teh crash was in full swing it was like a new one every week haha but when games were still pricey ( a bit) it was like wwwwwooooowwwww

It was definitely Target Fun (aka Air Sea Battle) which came with my Sears model, and SPACE INVADERS, which was why I bought a vcs in the first place. At the time I couldn't tell you the difference between a Odyssey 2, Bally Astrocade, or whatever was out there. All I knew was I had to get "the one that you can play Space Invaders".

I got my first Atari (my first game console, period) when I was 8 (almost 9), in June of 1985. It was a Vader 2600 with one joystick and no pack-in games; Wal-Mart was selling them for $20. My Dad bought it for me, and then took me to Kay-Bee to buy some games. I ended up getting Plaque Attack and Missile Command. I had reservations about Missile Command, since I had never really liked the arcade game, but I chose it anyway. By the end of the day, though, I loved 2600 MC. Plaque Attack was equally enjoyable. Interestingly, although it was my first Atari game, I've never seen another Plaque Attack since, and it remains my only copy among 1200 other carts. An uncommon game, I suppose, but worth the trouble of obtaining, for those of who who've never played it. Now, seventeen years later, I still have that same Atari and both cartridges... plus a few more besides. ;)

Pac-Man was my first, bought a couple hours before my 2600 itself! :ponder:

Fortunately, I had never played the arcade version. (It was 1982... I was 8.) So I thought it was way cool!

We got the Pac-Man game at a Kay-Bee toy store, but they were out of consoles, so we went to Kmart to get the 2600 itself, and along with it we also picked up Asteroids, Bowling, Breakout, and Home Run.

wow, it's great seeing some diversity in everyone's first games.

I would have thought it was all combat or my first game, Space Invaders which sold a lot of systems in the heyday of Atari.

When we got our 2600 in 1980, my first two games were Combat and Space Invaders but my parents got themselves Video Chess and Breakout.

Remember when the whole family competed for time on the Atari? :D

Space Invaders and Combat.

Then Asteroids and Missile Command, simultaneously. I spent a lot more time at home than I ever had before.

Then Pac-Man, Casino and Maze Craze, simultaneously. (My dad had meant well...)

Then Defender and Super Breakout. The latter was because the store was out of Centipede carts.

Then Vanguard. First game bought with my own money. I never left the house except for school.

Then Adventure and Raiders of the Lost Ark. I STILL haven't left the house.

As a sidenote, back during my acquisition of those games, around '82, I always felt sorry for people whose houses we visited, who had meant to use the Atari as a way to educate their kids. Their kids only had Combat (or Air-Sea Battle, of course), plus Basic Math, Brain Games, Concentration, and that sort of thing. Jeez!

My parents decided to buy me a video game system, for some unknown reason to me. So, we went down to our local Shop-Rite, yes, Shop-Rite, when they used to sell games. They bought a 6-switch with Combat, and I bought Adventure with my "hard-earned" allowance. I still remember clear as day walking up to the customer-service counter in awe, seeing all those consoles behind and the games in the counter. Ah, the memories.........
