Also, serial numbers and dates from keyboards are appreciated as well. the date on the keyboard can be found by (at least on mine) opening the outer plastic shell and noting the number on the sticker on the metal plate inside. (it's in the format YYMMDD.) Also, I find it odd that the serial number sticker has "US" on it, but the date sticker inside is Japanese. hmm.

85.02.18? seriously? that would suggest the XEGS keyboards just keyboards from another model , placed in their own cases with cords...

Exactly, if you open the case, there are START, SELECT, OPTION, and RESET keys. Just not connected.

Btw. have XEGS too (not at home though as it waits for several upgrades). ;)

XEGS PAL, SN: none, "MARKETTING SAMPLE" ATARI XEGS sticker instead of serial one under computer and keyboard too. Ordinary (but original) cardboard box with no colors and pictures only "XEGS PAL 220V USA" sticker on it ... Black kayboard connector cable.

Looking inside the keyboard case I found the text "MADE IN JAPAN" to the left of the space bar. The part number "C070015-003" is to the right of the spacebar. Both texts are part of the moulded plastic plane on which the keys are mounted on.

Perhaps all keyboard innards were manufactured in Japan.

Well I bought a PAL 130xe from B+C last year, and it had no serial number sticker on the bottom, maybe the serial was added when it reached its destination?

System serial #: A17B 006765

System made in: Taiwan

Keyboard serial #: A1 1209018

Keyboard date: 871109

PAL-I (UK)

special yellow keys that look like a smokers teeth :P

The keyboards have the extra switches because they are identical to the 65/130/800 XE. As the XE was released in '85 it is not a surprise that Atari may have used older keyboards, or, they have been replaced with other keyboards over the last 20 odd years.

The keyboard cable is the same as a 5200 joystick, but grey/yellow (delete which is not applicable :D )

Must try and fix mine now it's been dragged from storage

Hmmm, do all XEGS keyboards have contact points for Start/Select/etc keys? And do they actually work, if you short them? Seems like adding buttons for the console keys would be a good mod for the XEGS keyboard... I might have to disassemble mine and see if it's possible.
