gamme
First they started selecting NES games to be priced separately, like Mega Man is $30???? I think they are checking on eBay. Doesn't everyone already HAVE Mega Man??? This makes no sense. ***************** Now Atari 2600 THEY put Activision Ghostbusters aside from all the other games in a glass window at the price of $10. I bought it anyway because I had a credit slip. I remember years ago when I found the Supercharger and a couple tape games in there and they sold me them at regular price. There's no love anymore. I still dream of finding unknown carts in there every once in a while. I can fly in my dreams. I'm sitting on the floor and finding them in boxes underneath tables....and I steal them. Yeah, I steal them every time because I know, I know, they will tell me they aren't for sale. Then they take them behind the counter. That's what they do. In my dreams I do bad things. Baaaaaaaaadddd things....
Elerach
Yeah, a lot of used game shops do that now. It pisses me right off!
shadow460
Problems is that they'll use a higher price that they find on ebay when they pick a price to sell for, but they'll only offer a customer a percent of the lowest ebay price they find. There's not really much point in trading games in to a store unless you accept you're going to get pennies each for them.
Atariman
Can you haggle? I mean, most places like that are willing to wheel and deal - and if they ever use the "this is how much they go for on ebay" line on you, just respond with "really? Then I guess I'll buy all of my games there instead!" line right back! If you want games for the right price, you have to play hardball sometimes! Waterborn
Went shopping some flea markets in MA today and came across a lady who had all of her N64 stuff priced at $5, but had EVERY 2600 cart for $10! She even had a few Odyssee 2 games I needed, but also wanted $10 a piece for them. I recently bought a lot of 12 O2 games for $10 at another flea market, so it is kinda catch as catch can around here. Love the hunt though. cougar302b
I can't get a decent deal either. A church up the road from me (Four Square) had a huge rummage sale. I always salivate at that (never know, could find a boxed Music Machine with record). Anyway, my g.f. and I fanned out intent on our own missions of what we want and I found an old lady at one of the stations selling 2600 carts. Pretty much all were commons or r3s. No box no man. and they were $5 each. No haggling, no compromise. I guess everyone is starting to get on 2600 bandwagon. fiddlepaddle
Well, if you don't pay it, they won't sell it. If you do pay, you just set the new market price. At least until some fool with too much money comes along and says, "Wow! Only five dollars each!" and buys them all.
Genesis Does
Sometimes being a faithful customer to a shop can pay off. There are two local retro game stores in town (as well as the obligatory GameStop) and I only go to one. I went to the other one when I first recieved my Atari 2600 and I climbed up this flimsy ladder and picked up a pretty respectable stash and I go to pay for them and ask: "How much for all these games?" (thinking they are all tops two or three bucks a piece) "Oh, they all sell for $6.99" (I have had a bad relationship with this store and selling me broken gaming things for years) "Well, you can just take this store and shove it! You want to know why no one comes here anymore? Maybe if you stopped selling Jeopardy! Deluxe for Genesis for $16.99 and got your head out of your butt (I didnt say butt) youd realize why no one comes here anymore! Go to you know where (didnt say you know where)!" And then I went to the other one, asked him to pull out his atari stash and built a great collection for under 100 bucks (like 50 games). systemcat
Went to a shop a while back that I'm very sure was doing the eBay shunt with TG-16 games. ...Makes me feel glad 95% of my 2600 games came from a Goodwill that for the most part were 25 cents a game. AtariLeaf
Since I just recently got back into collecting, I visited a "place" that I used to go to occasionally but stopped because they were asking $7.00 each for games, all common ones. This past weekend I decided to stop in and I found a few carts that really caught my eye - Frankensteins Monster, Bank Heist, Entombed, and Laser Volley. Expecting the lady to tell me they were $10 each or something like that, I was pleaseantly surprised to find they were only $2 a piece. Lots of old games. One small box of atari games, (everything else was pretty common) a stack of about 50 PS1 games, a few dozen CV carts, hundreds of NES, SNES, and Genny too. And the porn, my god, the amount of porn these people seem to get at estate sales is insane.
