SoundGammon
After all these years playing Donkey Kong on all the old systems and also on MAME, I finally realized why I was so lousy at the arcade version...it's designed for LEFT handed players!!! The joystick is on the far left and the fire button on the right. I'm right handed! How much dexterity does one need to hit the jump button? I always had to play it with my arms crossed to be any good. Why didn't they, Nintendo, make it like Dig-Dug and put the joystick in the middle and a button on both sides? Anyone else have or had this problem?
Deteacher
Growing up, I also had to play cross-handed. What's worse is now when I play DK on MAME with my X-Arcade, I have to play cross-handed. I tried reconfiguring to use the player 2 joystick and a button on the player 1 side (to uncross my hands) but I can't play it that way. My arms have to be crossed when I play this game or else I suck out.
Nukey Shay
So it's impossible for you guys to play Robotron, then? Time to adapt.

arcadebasement
It feels completely natural for me to play with left hand for controls/right hand for jump and fire and I'm surprised anyone would think differently, I mean - look at the nintendo and sega controllers over the years, even on today's next-gen consoles 360 and Ps3 - every one of them has fire buttons on the right/movement controls on the left. Strange.
theking21083
Really anybody that grew up with the NES and on this should come natural. I am right handed and I know that I play better with the joystick on the left and button on the right. It's how I have always played video games. SRGilbert
I'd say the real test would be a game like Pengo which has the stick in the middle and an action button on either side to accomodate both lefties and righties. Which hand do YOU want to play with? For the record, I'm right handed and would prefer to play precision stick games like DK or Pacman with my right hand too. arcadebasement
I own a Ms pacman, pacman/galaga anniversary cab and I just realised I play Ms/Pacman with my right hand... Yet when playing galaga I switch to left hand for controls and right for fire. How weird is it that not only do I do that, but I never noticed it until this thread. SoundGammon
So it's impossible for you guys to play Robotron, then? Time to adapt. I "adapted" my Robotron, move is now on the right and fire is on the left. To survive video games you need to work on your defenses first. Firing is an offense! If it were the other way around one wouldn't last 10 seconds in Space Invaders!
