I just got a atari 5200 (the 4 port one) I plugged the thing in and I thought it would be the correct way. The t.v. still works but when I turn the game on all I get is a black screen? All the wires are in tight. Could somebody tell me what's wrong.

Do you get a power light? I know that is a basic tech support question, but the 5200 is designed so that if it doesn't think a cart is inserted, the power will not be turned on.

The red light does come on and the switchboard does make a clicking sound when I turn the system on. I hope it's switchboard that's broken. I would hate to wait 10 years again for the UPS man to come. Since anthorax all my stuff sent by UPS takes forever.

Also do you hear the relay switch over in the switchbox? I had a similar problem although I didn't eve get a black screen. I would get power on the 5200 and all seemed okay but then I discovered that I never heard the relay switch over in the switchbox. I had to replace a transitor and an Op amp in the switchbox before it started to function again. So far so good now.

Sorry to hear of all your bad 5200 luck.

I had a working 5200 go bad extactly the way you describe. Black screen... I played with it a bit, but nothing helped.

Since you have all the parts I would look for a cheap ebay auction for a system only. They don't seem to go for much with just the console itself.

I don't know if you've ever had a working 5200, but for me it's the atari system of choice. The game library is not huge, but full of quality game titles.
