+skr
Hello everybody, we had a little discussion about capturing Atari games in realtime. So I took my Formac Studio DV and my MacBookPro to test it. For the test I took the Numen demo. Completely, including the loader. http://skriegel.de/WordPress/?p=309 Don´t be afraid of the german text. If you go to my Vimeo page (find the link in the video on my blog) you will find a short english description of what I did. Greetings from Germany, Sascha Kriegel
Kaz atarionline.pl
320*192 Pixel maximale Bildschirmauflösung Shouldn't be "320*192 Pixel standard Bildschirmauflösung" or "384*240 Pixel maximale Bildschirmauflösung"?
+skr
320*192 Pixel maximale Bildschirmauflösung Shouldn't be "320*192 Pixel standard Bildschirmauflösung" or "384*240 Pixel maximale Bildschirmauflösung"? As far as I know the Atari shows 320*192 Pixels in Gr. 8 as highest possible resolution. This is what you get out of the box. How do I get 384*240 Pixels? Which graphics mode is that? How can I write that without confusing people? Remember: My Blog is also adressed to people who never heard about Ataris before. So I have to keep it simple. More detailed articles will follow, but I am not a hardware specialist or coder. Just a fanatic user who loves that little machine. Heaven/TQA
Atari has 3 modes for gfx. narrow, standard and wide mode... in wide mode you can get the 384x240 (nearly without any borders).
Rybags
I checked this the other night... pretty sure it's 352 properly visible Playfield pixels. Include PMGs and it's equivalent to 376 pixels (188 colour clocks). And, 480+ height if we include interlace ability.
Kaz atarionline.pl
How do I get 384*240 Pixels? Which graphics mode is that? How can I write that without confusing people? I understand circumstances and that's why I proposed two versions . "Maximale" means the biggest possible and "standard" can mean ready-to-use after turn on. Thus, maximum Atari resolution is 384 (you can get it by one simple POKE) by 240 (more POKEs than one) and 320x192 is one of standard gfx modes. More detailed articles will follow, but I am not a hardware specialist or coder. Just a fanatic user who loves that little machine. I appreciate this, I'm not a hardware specialist or coder too . Kaz atarionline.pl
And, 480+ height if we include interlace ability. Gary, correct me if I'm wrong, but an interlaced picture uses 240 lines (by turns). Thus, hardware resolution is still 240 and only picture resolution can be higher... we shouldn't count it as hardware abilites, the same as we don't count i.e. 1280x960 picture resized to display on Atari. candle
You're wrong This is not the kind of interlace You get extra colors from, but the one You get extra resolution, and 480 lines are actually displayed on tv/monitor Oh, and Your example is irrelevant... I took your proposal and changed "maximale" to "Standard" and added a new line with "your" maximum and put a link to this discussion here, so that one can look for the current top-resolution which is being discussed here. Rybags
For the purpose of general discussion, 320x240 or 352x240 is probably sufficient to describe it the Atari's ability. Utlising the scanline 240 "bug", you can get to exert some control over the colour displayed in the vertical overscan area, as well as place PMG objects there. But, that's like saying the C-64 can do "420x240" (or whatever it amounts to when you remove the borders). Generally, you just refer to what the machine does without performing hardware bug exploits. Thanks Candle. Can you give me more details how it works that 480 line are displayed at the same time?
Rybags
It's normal TV interlace instead of the "288p" type you get with old computers. So, it's alternating fields each 50th of a second - for the purpose of describing resolution, we call it "576i" or "480i" if we're using modern terminology. Here in the states, the Atari outputs 240p (352x240 progressive @ 60Hz), your work has brought it to 480i!

+skr
Ilusia, video made by Seban/Slight (better quality and sound on both channels). Great, that is much better than mine. I really should apply the Super Video Mod fast. How did they capture the video?
miker
He grabbed picture with Dscaler on ATI + Rage Theater 550Pro card, signał thru S-Video in full PAL resolution (720x576 - source file has 4,9GB so it wouldn't fit DVD! ). Then it was compressed to H.264 format with sound as AAC. Don't remember the rest now.

I also capture to DV-PAL and compress with H.264, i know about huge videofiles.
