Original Activision Release Dates...

Recommended Posts

All,

I just had to put this listing together for some of the people here on my side. I thought that I would go-ahead and post this here, before I lose this in the flood of emails I keep.

If anyone has ever wondered about the original Activision Atari 2600 Catridge release dates, well.. "Here ya' go."

These come straight from our archives...

Hopefully, they'll all show-up A-OK. I apologize if they don't.

My mistake.

I just notice that my Release date for Pete Rose Baseball is off. It should've been the same date, 1988.

Thanks,

Ken -

Thanks for the info! FYI - I noticed the Bridge release date is 12/1/1988 - should it be 12/1/1980? I didn't notice anything else peculiar.

Thanks again!

Ken: was Ghostbusters II an original Activision-Title or is it completely from Salu? What is the story behind this game?

I think Ghostbuster II is a version of the Activision computer-game

(C 64, Atari ST, Amiga).

Pastfinder               Original Release Date: 07/30/84 (Atari 5200)

Pastfinder never came out for the 5200. Is it possible the 5200 list is mixed in with the 8-bit list since the two were essentially the same?

If not, I'd love to see an 8-bit list if that was also available.

OK.... Here's what I believe the story to be with Ghostbusters 2.

As we all know, Activision released both PC and NES versions of Ghostbusters 2. The Atari 2600 version was Published by SALU Limited.

OK, while I dont have the original SALU / Ghostbsters 2 contract in front of me, this is what I'm lead to beleive happened with it.

Around 1988 / 1989, Activision had worked out a Distribution deal with SALU over in Europe. The deal basically let SALU distribute our Atari 2600 games.

I'm fairly certain the deal was between Activision UK and SALU. Rather than Activision US and SALU.

I'm betting that after this deal was initially cut, there was probabaly alot of good feelings between the companies. SALU naturally getting our 2600 library, and us getting a pretty good amount of money.

The time this deal was cut, Atari was enjoying a small resurgance with the Atari 2600 "Junior".

SALU probably came back to Activision UK at some point in time shortly after this deal, and found out that Activision had the rights to Ghostbusters 2. Asked Activision.. "Hey, are you guys going to do anything with Ghostbusters 2 for the Atari 2600." We said "No.", and SALU then probably came back with a Licensing offer.

That deal was probably really simple. Alot of ca$h and all we had to do was approve their finished goods.

I'll go into this topic much deeper when we finally launch the Activisions website. There's actually quite a bit more to the story than just this.

Dolphin date is correct.

Thanks!

I only wondered, because Oink (AX 023) was released at 12/27/82 and Dolphin (AX 024) exactly a whole year later and after more than ten other releases, all with higher numbers.

So it looks like the game got delayed a lot. Any idea if that is true and, if yes, why :?:

Heya Thomas!

Not quite sure of that, actually. :(

Maybe, once we get that far in the Anthology website, I'll hit Mike and Matt up to find out what happened there.

Thomas, do you think you can NTSC to PAL a few more ROMS for us?

Thanks,

As long as we a talking about the 2600, sure!

I hope those converted ROMs will be free and public available too? Or do you prefer to pay me a lot of $$$? ;)

Just email them to me and I'll do my very best.

4K ROMs usually only need less than two hours, 8K and especially 16K superproportional more.

Thats strange. I own a Prototype from Dolphin with this date:

12/20/82

so the Prototype is over one year older then the released game? And this with no diffrents?

I think too, that there must be a wrong date.

I think if a Prototype is over one year older then the released game, then it will something be changed before it will released. But why they wait over a year, and release the same game?

Here a picture from the Prototype:

Dolphin Prototype

:? :? :?

Tempest's prototype is having the same date:

Dolphin_122082.jpg

And he says that he found no differences too. Are you still sure Ken?

On the site, where this Dolphin Prototype came was this Oink Prototype too. And it has the same date. :D

So I think the date is wrong too.
