Fischer500
I decided to attempt to get StellaDS on my new DSi, But it dawned on me that I have no idea what to do with the files! So I ask the wonderful people of atariage, how do I install StellaDS!?
Wickeycolumbus
I assume you have a flash card? All you need to do is put the emulator (atarids.nds) and 2600 ROMs on the flash cart.
Fischer500
Flash cart...? No, I don't have one of those... I don't even know what that is... How much would it cost to get a good one?

I have an original DS and use the Acekard 2 which set me back about $20. However, that will not work on a DSi. There are several different models for sale here: http://www.dealextreme.com/products.dx/category.604 I'm not sure which is the best for the DSi though. Fischer500
I'll have to order one then. Can you download a ROM of a normal DS game and play it on one of these?

Fischer500
Just the ones I already own. So I don't have to carry around a case full of games. Would *that* be legal?

Fischer500
Hm. Looks like I'll just be stickin' to a library of 2600 games. The file on that chuckster website, are the included roms all that it can play "out of the box"?

RevEng
Its been a while since I tried it, but the last time I ran StellaDS it ran disappointingly slow. If that's your killer app, then you may want to reconsider the venture. Some other emulators, like the GB and NES run great, as does the scummvm interpreter. Regarding flash carts, the suggestion for an Acekard 2 was a good one. If you have a DSi, then you'll want an Acekard 2i. Alternatively, the M3/M3i-Zero is also popular. Avoid R4 cards, as they don't get updates as fast or frequently. New roms may not play on them for some time, if ever. Regarding copyright law, technically you need to dump your own cart for the backup to qualify under the fair-use exemption. Its your call whether you want to follow the letter or the spirit of the law.
Fischer500
If the emulator is slow, then I won't even go for it. But, if there is a good NES emulator, that may be a different story... Can you point me to a good one? I don't trust google...
RevEng
nesDS is the best NES emulator on DS. It looks like the author isn't distributing it anymore, but you can grab the last copy here. If you're interested in GB/GBC emulation, Lameboy is the best option. And here's scummvm ds, if you're interested in playing the Lucasarts/Sierra adventures.
