Albert
Al, what do you usually pay for one with shipping? Bravo Sierra has them for $150 shipped. That may be steep if you can find them on Craig's List for $30. And then again, it may be reasonable. I've never bought one. $150 is way too much unless perhaps they are brand new. If I can get them for $50 shipped (and they are actually in decent condition and are packaged well) then I'm happy. ..Al
Tanman
Fight the good fight!!! If you find another person selling a 64 with the monitor u need, if it is a good deal, I would be interested in spliting with ya. Tanner
Albert
WTF? eBay Auction -- Item Number: 140401977824 I had a snipe ready with a $21 dollar bid, LOL. I can't believe this went for $61 plus $30 shipping. I wonder if it's because of the "WITH BOX", even though the box wasn't pictured. ..Al
atarian63
Hey Al, I am up to two working ones now for you. Hopefully have more by the time you need them.
Albert
Hey Al, I am up to two working ones now for you. Hopefully have more by the time you need them. Thanks, that's a big help. Was hoping to get that one above for a reasonable price and figured that since it's already in Texas, it might arrive in one piece. ..Al
+Mitch
In case you ever decide to repair one you can snag the service manual here. Mitch
Albert
Thanks Mitch, that actually will come in handy as I've had issues with these monitors before. Never cracked one open, though. I'm sure many of the issues (such as flaky audio) would be pretty easy to fix. ..Al
+Mitch
Yeah, I'm still trying to track down a cap list since I suspect many of the common issues can be fixed by recapping them. Mitch

Tempest That's probably it (caps), though a bad or very dirty reastat(the volume potentiometer) can cause that.Contact cleaner at Radio shack is your buddy. Hopefully it's those simple fixes. Amazing how well these were made, there are many survivors out there, whereas I commonly see monitors from the 90's dead as a doornail. Sheesh, if you're deep in the trade enough to know the word 'rheostat,' why on earth wouldn't you know how to spell it? -tet
Tempest
Cap replacement is probably beyond my skills. Maybe I can get someone to do it locally as it wouldn't be worth the cost to ship it out anywhere. Tempest
Albert
I've received a second 1702 monitor that was damaged in the mail. Both were shipped via US Mail (the first one was shipped via Media Mail, the second via Parcel Post). This one was also cracked in a corner. I haven't tested it yet to see if it still works, nor have I written the seller yet to ask for at least a partial refund (not worth the hassle of shipping back, the price of the monitor was less than the price of shipping). I'm now up to 13 1702 monitors, although two of those are cracked on the exterior so I will likely not use them even if they work fine. Still hoping to get a few more from AtariAge members, who at least take the time to package these properly. Think I should hit the BIN on this auction? eBay Auction -- Item Number: 170498016898 ..Al
AtariLeaf
Think I should hit the BIN on this auction? eBay Auction -- Item Number: 170498016898 ..Al Well it is "RARE" so it must be worth the asking price. Sorry to hear that you're having poor luck with proper packaging lately. It's really becoming an epidemic anymore.

If I end up driving over to CGE I could bring one with me. My plans aren't finalized yet, though it's looking like there's a pretty good chance I'll make it. My plans aren't finalized yet, though it's looking like there's a pretty good chance I'll make it. That's a good question. I'm hoping to have 12 good, working monitors for the show, plus I'll probably bring a larger television or two. I haven't completely worked out the booth space yet, and that may not happen until I arrive on site. But I'll certainly use all the monitors I bring. I plan on using two of these for each game--with two monitors stacked on each other (I did this at the 2002 show with eight 1702 monitors and it looked great). Maybe even more, depending on how much space I have. Hope you're able to make it!! ..Al
Albert
Sorry to hear that you're having poor luck with proper packaging lately. It's really becoming an epidemic anymore. Yeah, I am tired of eBay. Bought some software from a seller recently only to find that it was obviously pirated upon receipt. I'd say at least half of my purchases in the last year have either been poorly packaged, pirate DVDs or software, or misrepresented in some way. It's so stupidly ridiculous that I seriously have no desire at all to shop on eBay for anything. ..Al
+Mitch
I finally cracked open a 1702 and created a cap list. Forty one electrolytic caps in all, yowza! Albert
Doing some testing now. The monitors don't look that washed out, that's just from the flash. Haven't blown a circuit breaker yet... Found two more monitors with cracks in the plastic, but these all work fine so far (two of the eight here are the ones I started with and those two were in excellent condition, especially compared to the ones I bought from various eBay sellers). ..Al
+Nathan Strum
What would be cool, would be a custom bezel to cover the front of the monitors, so it looked more like a unified display. Especially since some of the flippy-doors are missing.

I have several more monitors here I need to test and hope to get more before the show as well. ..Al

Though obviously not all sections of the case are easily accessible. Mitch
