Classic99 Updates

Hi,

I have pulled this .WAV file from my cassette player and don´t get it handled.

(I want to convert a tape to a .DSK on my Windows 7 laptop)

Dilithium-WAV01.wav

(After checking the new manual) I start Classic99, choose Extended Basic, boot,

then say -> Disk ->Load/Rewind Tape and point to the WAV file.

Then I say -> OLD CS1, and confirm with 2x Enter on the dialog.

I can hear the very first rustle(?) from the recording, but then this disappears, before the sound starts.

After some seconds I get "ERROR - NO DATA FOUND"

What am I doing wrong, any thoughts ?

(I uploaded it to JS99er, there this .WAV file works, but I don´t understand how to manage DSKs,

and how to download the finished .DSK to my computer)

thanks

xXx

EDIT: I got my DSK from JS99er :) so this is the result and this works.

Dilithium-WAV01.wav

Maybe I have to setup something special for sound in Classic99 ?

I am on standard setting in the options there (-> Options -> Audio: 22050 Hz, Volume about 80%)

It's a very noisy recording, and the waveform is quite different from most of the other WAVs, some of which have never seen an analog device. I'm pleased that it works in JS99'er because this shows that my attempt to deal with noise has borne fruit.

After you have saved a file to a disk you can simply go to the Disk tab, select the disk from the drop down, and click Save DSK File.

PS: This is the initial WMA-RIP from my windows audio recorder, what I have converted via Nero Wave Editor to this .WAV above.

Dilithium-32-Progs-XB--01.WMA.zip

As I am a totally experienced audio specialist, I had to make no changes on any options in Nero :grin:

( I fell off the chair when I saw all the options and menues from Nero, so I just exported it to .WAV :D )

Maybe I start another topic, like "Tape List Ripping for Berserkers" :)

Hi,

does this noise sound a bit better ? I turned volume down to 7.

(Classsic99 does not "show" any sound on playing the file yet)

Dilithium-32-Progs-XB--01-Biorythm-VOLUME-7.wav

When I go to TURBOFORTH in 80-columns in the latest version(s) v399 and v399a, I get a flickering or jiggling effect in the screen text. It appears to be pulsing from side to side. It wasn't there in earlier versions.

I'm just going to put Windowshade mode back in for you... ;)

Is stable here.. only theory I have is maybe you're using a non-fixed screen multiplier and your video system is doing something funny with the updates. Try Video->Change Size->1x (or 2x or 3x or 4x) and see if that makes it more stable. There's nothing in the rendering side that should be able to do that... nothing is drawn at a pixel level, for instance.

It is very staticy but I can see the data... it gives me a little better idea what the system is trying for. Classic99 is seeing too much of the noise, I think - kudos to JS99er for getting it! ;)

If you just want to ignore the PIO access I guess a blank DSR could be loaded. You'd have to set up a cartridge in Classic99.ini with the module you want and the DSR file.

This will work for BASIC or XB (by selecting the Extended BASIC module plus the dummy DSR). Drop the attached file into the MODS folder, and add this to your Classic99.ini. Then select it from the Cartridge->User menu instead of normal Extended BASIC.

[usercart1]
name=PIO with XB
rom1=O|0000|0004|Select XB
rom2=D|1200|0040|.\MODS\C99FakePIO.BIN

Hi Mike.

Just wanted to poke you about the "profiles" request. So many new games and programs coming out, so many times I have to changes DSK1 to something else either FIAD or DSK when I'm not done using the previous configuration.
I keep wishing for profiles, but not yet...
Or did I miss them being added somewhere along the line?

I don't want to be a pain in the arse lol. I wish I had the skill necessary to help or create a third party utility to fill this empty hole in my heart. ;)

So along those lines, I know there is a way for folks to capture and save the VDP/ram/rom/grom etc.. in the TI emulation or something like that using the debugger. A sort of "Save State" function is what I'm thinking. But does that or could that also save DSKx assignments in c99? And what cart is inserted? And what system is selected? and what features (in c99) are enabled? Because if so, then I already have what I need. I just need to learn how to use it and save each State, with a descriptive filename. In other words, can it save the state of classic99 or does it only save the state of the emulated TI internals?

You could have different classic99.ini files. Rename as you need them.

Or you could have different directories, each with a Classic99 installation (footprint is (can be) relatively small).

Rasmus' JS99'er has save states. Take a look here.

Thanks, those are great ideas. I can say I never once opened up the c99 ini. I should probably read the docs for it as well. That might very well be all I need. JS99er is an option too but I don't see any download links for the newest version. They must have been downloadable at some point because I have a local copy (old) here on my system, but AFAIK, the topic thread isn't updated with the latest version to DL. Maybe I'm mistaken?

JS99'er basically runs in the browser and stuff is probably updated/reloaded if your cache holds an older copy of a resource - or was it press F5 to refresh. Yes, I guess one can still download (GitHub) and have most if not all stuff functional, locally and offline.
