Looking for a external Keyboard

Recommended Posts

Hi,

i'm looking about an external Keyboard for my 800XL or 130XE.

I look not for a PC-Keyboard.

I think about a ext. Keyboard that use a original 800XL-Keyboard as Basis (the 130XE-Keyboard is ugly). I think a 800XL-Case (Top-Part only) can be a good start, maybe with an DB25-Connector.

Hello Valerie

Since you don't like the 130XE's keyboard, you probably don't like the external keyboard of the XEGS either. But if you compare the schematics of the XE and the XEGS, you'll see, that Atari used a clever system. Maybe you can do the same with an XL keyboard.

BTW why not use the 600XL's top half?

sincerely

Have you a link to the Xe/XEGS-Schematics to compare? 800XL Schematics i have in the "ATARI Profibuch" from Sybex.

In theory you could rejig an XL to use an external in the same fashion as the XEGS.

Put the multiplexors in the keyboard itself as well, since you then only need the dozen or so wires instead of over 20.

If I was going to that trouble, I think I'd do the console keys too though.
