+Philsan
In my games selection I have 20 games that need 128KB and 10 games that need 320KB. Some of them need more than 64KB to run from disk drive/modern storage devices. They need only 64KB if they run from cart. Well, you forgot the card games (mostly Solitaire and Poker games) by J.Chicko, they are all 128k: http://a8.fandal.cz/search.php?search=130XE&butt_details_x=x e.g. Absolute Zero, Beleagured Castle, Canfield, etc. And these are 320k: http://a8.fandal.cz/search.php?search=320XE&butt_details_x=x e.g. Yie Ar Kung Fu, etc. Thanks but I didn't forget. As written in my previous post, "in my games selection I have 20 games that need 128KB and 10 games that need 320KB". I listed games in my games selection, not all >64KB games. I have not listed Yie Ar Kung-Fu (and the awesome Atari Blast!) because they are work in progress.
Mclaneinc
Trust me, some of the animations are NSFW, or anywhere thinking about it... Somebody spent a fair time digitising sections from porn tapes... I'm no prude but there could have been some warning... Thanks to the lo-res I first thought it was a bloke holding a cricket bat... I was wrong.... Edited July 5, 2016 by Mclaneinc
Lilralphie
As a total Atari n00b please forgive me if this is not in the right section. I am trying to RGB mod my 5200 using a VBXE as per http://atariage.com/forums/topic/183821-rgb-in-5200/page-2 In order to do so, I believe I would need to reprogram the VBXE to version 1.02 and load the 5200 file(s) by hooking the VBXE up to an XL or XE computer. I don't have such a computer. Would there be anyone willing to help me out with this step? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help directly or point me in the right direction. Mclaneinc
I'd say this is beyond learner status and you would be best and get more help if posted in the main forum so the maximum people see it. Wish I could help more but I don't have that sort of kit myself but many users in the main forum do and will be super helpful. In here is more for the real basics (no pun intended) of finding stuff, help using and that sort of thing... Paul...
Hawk269
Does the Atari 130xe output S-Video through the Monitor out port? I have found some cables that have the monitor port on one end and on the other end it has a S-Video port but also R/W audio and Yellow Video. The site selling says that some 800xl could do it depending on when they were made, but they also say it should work on a 130xe. I just want to make sure before buying the cable and ordering a 130xe computer that a friend is selling. Thanks!

Yes - the monitor port provides separate Y and C signals, as well as combined composite, audio, and ground.

Skippy B. Coyote
Hey there guys and gals. I'm a long time console gamer but over the last month or so I've been reading up on Atari 8-Bit computers to see what their game library is like and how to use the hardware. I'm not too sharp when it comes to computers most of the time (there's a reason I've always stuck to consoles for gaming lol) but I think I get the gist of how to use most of the gaming related hardware for Atari 8-Bit computers. I understand that games either come on cartridges or 5.25" floppy disks, and that you can use a SIO2SD to put the game files for floppy disk games on an SD card and run them off that if you want access to the full library of floppy disk games. What I'm still confused about and haven't been able to wrap my head around though is if there is a simple and easy to use flash cart for playing cartridge based games. I love the Harmony Encore and EverDrive flash carts that I have for my consoles because they're so simple to use: Just use a modern computer to drag and drop the files for the games you want to play into a folder on an SD card, stick the SD card in the cartridge, then pop the cartridge into your console and you're presented with a clean and easy to navigate menu for selecting the game you want to play when you turn the system on. Are there any straightforward and easy to use flash carts like the Harmony or EverDrives available for Atari 8-Bit computers? Everything I've found on AtariMax just left me scratching my head trying to figure out how to use it, so I was wondering if there are any simple idiot-proof options out there for A8 gaming flash cartridges? +Philsan
Ultimate SD cart is a new very good flashcart solution; the only drawback is it doesn't load floppy disk games.
Skippy B. Coyote
Ultimate SD cart is a new very good flashcart solution; the only drawback is it doesn't load floppy disk games. Thanks for the reply Philsan! I looked up the Ultimate SD cart and sadly it appears that it's no longer in production and no future production runs are planned. It does seem like a lot of people are using the AtariMax MyIDE-II for gaming though, so I was wondering if there was a newbie tutorial somewhere for how to set it up for that purpose? I am certainly willing to learn how to use it if that's the best gaming flash cart option still in production, though I am a touch concerned that it seems like it may require some software configuration on a modern Windows computer to get it running and all the computers in my household are Macs; which could be an issue. You can still buy Ultimate SD here http://atariage.com/forums/topic/256980-ultimate-sd-cart-run-us-source-nov-30-ship-date-25-in-run/ but you'll have to wait. Or you can buy a SIO2SD device. This barebone version is cheap: http://www.lotharek.pl/product.php?pid=49 If you have a PC nearby, SIO2PC-USB is another nice solution: http://www.lotharek.pl/product.php?pid=
WizWor
I use both the Flashcart and the SIO2SD. The FC is a great home for your favorite arcade games and the SIO2SD is capable of running games that use multiple flopies and/or save date (SCoG for me). No need to choose, really. Skippy B. Thank you for the link and helpful information! If I do end up getting a 800XL at some point I'll definitely try to get on the waiting list for an Ultimate SD cart. The only other thing I wanted to ask, and this may have been covered in a FAQ elsewhere that I haven't found yet, but other than playing games and learning how to program games what can you really do with an 8-bit Atari computer these days? As in, for a layman unfamiliar with the A8 line are there other ways to enjoy the hardware than playing games that would be easy to learn and use? I'm just trying to get an idea of what I might be able to do with one of these computers to expand it's functionality beyond a simple gaming device. +Philsan
If you would like to test A8 graphic power, you could convert images with PC and display them on Atari. manterola
I have an 65XE with ECI (is this exactly the same as the 800XE?). Did Atari released any hardware to be attached in the ECI?. I am interested in expanding the memory of the 65XE. Which (external) module you recommend if any?. What about going under the hood and solder additional RAM or other internal modules). What are my options? I've been reading the forum and I'm a bit confused... Thanks Mauricio

DNA128k
Hey there, hope this is the right place to post this. I've been playing Atari consoles my whole life, and I'm interested in the 8-bit line; is there a rough estimate on what fair prices are on the different models? They seem to be all over the place on eBay. Additionally, are there particular models that are more reliable than others? Thanks!
