Finally found Sonic CD for the SegaCD today. There actually were a few SegaCD games available. Those in the longbox jewel cases (sports and a few other lesser-known titles) they were asking $6 a pop for. Sonic CD was in a regular-sized digi-pak case, so it was off with the music CD's for $2.

You gotta love Goodwill.

Went to an estate sale today and picked up all kinds of stuff. I'll only post the video games though. They were all mixed in with music cd's at 50 cents each, and then after 1 pm all items left in the house were half price!

I picked up for 50 cents:

PC

Quake Arena

Unreal Tournament

Rainbow Six: Rouge Spear

Rainbow Six: Rouge Spear, Mission Pack: Urban Operations

3D Pinball

Hellbender

I went back a little later to see if they had a snowblower that was marked for $100 down to $50. But it was already gone. But I did get the following games for 25 cents each! :D

PC

Rocket Jockey

Jane's: USAF

PS1

Twisted Metal III

Syphon Filter

Syphon Filter 3

Dreamcast

Crazy Taxi

Hydro Thunder

Dreamcast Magazine Demo disc, May 2000

Dreamcast Generator Vol 1

Not too bad a haul.

Well, I found some interesting stuff today. I was down in San Antonio, and went out to a nearby Goodwill. They had a 32X system under the counter, and I asked to see it. Four boxed 32X games and a boxed Sonic 2, and it even had The Wire, but at $40, there was no way I was going to pay that much.

But I saw a funny looking cartridge in front of it and asked to see that too. It looked like some sort of pirate Famicom cartridge. Upon closer inspection, it was not a pirate cart. It was a Konami Salamander (essentially the same game as Life Force for NES) in a smoke-colored transparent cartridge shell with a transparent label. The really strange part was that someone put some FDS labels on the back: Zelda 2 side A/B and Section Z side A/B. I'm going to heat gun those off and stick them to an FDS disc case or something. The best part? 99 cents

Then I headed over to Thrift Town where I spotted what looked like Famiclone cartridges in N64 style cases. I was sure it was just a famiclone until I saw the list of games on one of the cartridges: Word? Excel? Guiá Telefónica? PC-DOS? It had a vertical pen mouse, and a port for a (missing) keyboard and joypad. WTF kind of famiclone has a mouse and keyboard? But it did have the same number of pins as a famiclone.

And you know how famiclones are built to look like some kind of real console? This one was made to look like a freaking PDA! But it was six bucks.

So I get home and fire it up. The first thing I notice is that the A/V cable is a Sega Genesis 2 cable. And it uses 9 volts, so I grab the nearby Sega Genesis 1 power supply plug and fire it up. The keyboard cable uses the same 9-pin DIN, and since one of the cables is a 9-pin to 9-pin cable (hmm, I wonder if that would work for 32X video?), the keyboard probably had a female mini-9 plug on it.

That stupid mouse pen is a total piece of crap, and not only is it hard to use, there's no obvious way to pop the end off to clean the rollers. There was also a connection problem, either a cold solder joint or a bad wire in the cable, but if I put the unit at just the right angle, it worked. I took a lot of pictures and I'll put them in another thread, but it turns out it really was a famiclone. One that was pretending to be a PC.

One of the carts "CYBERSTAR 103 GAMES" had a version of Minesweeper, Reversi, and a Solitaire that only pulled one card from the deck at a time, making it easier than regular solitare. None of the stuff that was made to look like Windows had a consisent user interface. And it had an "80 in 1" which only had a few games, the ones I was able to identify were Track and Field, F-1 Race, and that stupid tank game that's in every pirate multicart. They even made a Windows-style Start menu with "~" characters in the names! The really strange stuff was "PC-DOS", which looked like a DOS prompt, probably totally fake, but I didn't have a keyboard, and "G-BASIC", which wouldn't start up, either because it was even more fake, or because it was waiting for the keyboard. The background music for most of the menu screens was a very bad version of Blue Danube.

The other cart "SISTEMA CYBER" had a mix of stuff, including a couple of "story" games which weren't even as much fun as Dragon's Lair. They actually had digitized voice, sometimes female, and probably spoken by someone in China, but they had a stupid one-dimensional story line where you just clicked on a series of buttons every now and then. It also had a "dictonary" program which could speak the word.

I dug out a random famiclone joypad and it wouldn't work with the games. But when I popped them into my SNES Tristar, they worked. The D-pad was programmed to emulate a mouse.

A quick check on Google couldn't find anything about this, so I guess I have some unusual pirate cartridges that need to be dumped or something. I'll probably see if I can get Kevtris interested. He'll love the idea of trying to figure out how the keyboard and mouse work.

Rouge - a red color associated with make-up and that stupid Mulan Rouge movie.

super gay.

Rogue - somewhere along the lines of Rebelious, dishonest. When dealing with Star Wars, Rogue is just another word for Rebel.

don't forget that often times the term rouge can be applied to rebelious factions. typiccally those with communist/socialist leanings.. typiccaly its french for "red"

a rogue is typicaly refers to someone thats outside of the law if you want to call that a rebel.. by all meens.. but it can just as easily refer to a common pick pocket or other such scoflaws or rapscalions

Stopped by the Ithaca SalVal and found a SNES PowerScope for $2... definately an awesome deal, but I left it for the next guy (or the next time I'm in.) I don't have any Super Scope games to play it with, anyway- anymore. (I recently got rid of a game- because I didn't have the gun!)

However, I did a buddy of mine in town a favor and he unloaded 11 NES carts on me. He's into creepy violent stuff, in general, and his games reflect his personality. Some of them are great:

Castlevania, Dracula's Curse, Commando, Bionic Commando, Contra, Sky Shark, Life Force, Simon's Quest, Air Fortress, Double Dragon & SkyKid.

So far, Sky Shark is probably my favorite... it reminds me of Qevious. Air Fortress is good, too.

My girlfriend has an Atari sticker on her lunchbox. So yesterday at lunch, a guy asked if she liked atari. She said that her boyfriend collects them. He then stated that he had a butt-load of the games and a system in his basement. He is going to bring them into her... and give it to her for free!!! Can't beat that
