Colecovision Auction Watch

I was running around eBay just for fun and I've found several curious things.

First of all, a Fall Guy cartridge (it was not a prototype?), besides it looks too new to be original:

http://rover.ebay.co...8795%26_rdc%3D1

A Gulkave cartridge at US$99.95 (it is still available at a lesser price in Good Deal Games):

http://rover.ebay.co...5294%26_rdc%3D1

Both of these games have been up on eBay for a considerable amount of time and in fact, the price on each has dropped during this time to more reasonable levels but still overpriced on the Gulkave CIB for the obvious reason that it can still be bought new from GDG as you have pointed out.

The Fall Guy cart was a joint venture production by CBS Electronics and eColeco many years ago. So, it is in fact the first known (re)production cart that was widely available for purchase. CBS and eColeco also teamed up to produce carts versions of other prototype games such as The Yolks on You, M*A*S*H, Moon Patrol, Mattel BurgerTime, ADAM Defender, Video Hustler and a number of others that were supplied with a similar label (different color), a CBS style label or a reproduction label with small text changes.

But wait, here comes the most interesting:

Ghostblaster CIB, US$570

http://rover.ebay.co...0948%26_rdc%3D1

Jeepers Creepers CIB, US$435

http://rover.ebay.co...3014%26_rdc%3D1

Sky Jaguar CIB, US$375

http://rover.ebay.co...2698%26_rdc%3D1

Ninja Princess CIB, US$390

http://rover.ebay.co...6109%26_rdc%3D1

I've heard that a Q*Bert Qubes CIB was sold by US$400 some weeks ago just for point of comparison.

These are auctions of an AtariAge member and if he gets those prices or something close to them... God Bless. You'll never know unless you try.

Thankfully I already had Q*bert's Qubes or else I would have had to make a run at that one. It certainly doesn't hurt the value of my CIB and auctions like these are good for the CV Scene as a whole as it generates interest as well as increases the value of the items that a lot of us already own. However, it does stink for those that need said items and end up having to pay inflated prices.

The fall guy is clearly a repro

So you think it is a fan made reproduction of the CBS/eColeco (re)production? Or you are saying that it's simply CBS/eColeco's (re)production from the rom code that was acquired back in the ADAM Users Group days... around 1986.

Have you ever seen a real Porky proto?

Never seen a REAL prototype cartridge for any of these 20th Century Fox games and the person's name that acquired all these games' rom code back in the day has been long forgotten.

Funniest thing is Ecoleco didn't even bother to ask original artworks to 20th Century or didn't even created one for them

If eColeco asked permission from 20th Century Fox, they wouldn't have gotten it and probably wouldn't have gotten a response. Same thing Homebrewers face now-a-days.

the label is a cheap ripoff of the title screen :|

Indeed it is.

For games like M*A*S*H and others that were officially released for other systems like the Atari 2600, CBS/eColeco should have reproduced that label and made the appropriate text changes. They did it with the Mattel BurgerTime label by reproducing the Coleco label and then adding Intellivision and they also made a very nice Epyx reproduction label for Escape from the MindMaster.

Look like I will have to post a pic of the Porky proto cart

I know who own this cart ;)

The Fall Guy is simply a cheap repro done by ecoleco in the mid 90s

I have been in contact with them at time and they trade me a Montezuma's Revenge cart

The label quality was exactly the same, and it was in a Coleco Industries case, not Parker Bros

For me they worth next to nothing.....

Hey, that's the same picture that I have! ;)

For people's general knowledge, the following pics are of prototype games that were made available on cartridge by CBS/eColeco. As far as the value of these carts, I would say what people are willing to pay to have a physical cartridge version. To buy a real prototype cart like Porky's could be very expensive, so these CBS/eColeco carts are a nice alternative... especially at the right price.

J-F, is there any reason a new run of these couldn't be done as a full CIB release with better artwork, etc? I'm sure there would be interest at a more reasonable price point, say $40-50? Plus I'd feel more comfortable buying from you knowing full well what I was buying versus not being sure if I was buying a cheap repro of a repro, plus from a collectibility standpoint they'd look nicer on my shelves CIB. Just sayin. :)

If people are interested in a certain repro game IE. Yolk's on You , Porky etc..

Just make a thread to know how much interests there is and I will be glad to make a run of CIB

In fact, I already did alot of artworks/labels for almost every unreleased games

The CollectorVision logo should appear clearly on the front of the box though... :)

If you made them I'd buy them all, and I agree with Luc that I'd like to see a clear identifier that this was a Collectorvision release.

(Mountian King CIB w/Sunrise Softare Packing box)

I really thought that this would get more. After we purchased the same ones from Ozma Wars a couple of years back, I kind of thought it was almost half for enjoyment, and half for an investment.

Maybe they are more common now.....

Ouch :-o  I agree that is a big price drop, It could be just that auction, or just bad timing. Atari 2600 has that game up plus I have seen a few on ebay lately so I think its bad time where a lot of people are selling there's right now, so demand is low. Hopefully the price will go up closer to what I paid for those games in the near future.

Sunrise games :

I sold and traded 131 games in total, only 11 sold to Europe so I shall think this game was easier to find in Europe...or not of interest for young collectors. I am 45 and when I speak to Young collectors it seems they have no clear idea of how many games released for this system.

I wanna sell some other rare games now in both original and Telegames box.

Boulderdash I suppose the most interesting

but Others I will put for sale

if u have a particular enquiry pls ask through Ebay.

I've thought that Mountain King was the easiest of the Sunrise releases to get, so the value would be noticeably less than the others.

As the old saying goes, "Some days peanuts, some days shells". It's just the ups and downs of the videogaming market especially when a large supply of items are found and then made available to the buyers. The same thing has been going on for years with the South American sellers with their huge stashes of videogames that have been stored away in warehouses for decades.

For the longest time, the silver boxed Sunrise games (besides Mountain King because the silver boxed version of that was the only one ever made) were the much rarer and more expensive than their yellow box counterparts. This all changed wihen Ozma made available all those silver box CIBs a couple years ago with the help of PixelBoy which basically flip-flopped the rarity and value of these.

Even the yellow box version of Quest for Quintana Roo has dropped dramatically in the last year when a couple sold for well over $200, but now the last one didn't even top $100.
