high voltage
I know this has been covered before, but what is a Special Edition? I have three, Basic Programming, Casino, Superman. What's special about them, and how many specials are out there?
Tempest
Backgammon also came in a special edition IIRC. Nothing special about them (at least not that anyone can figure out), Atari was just trying to make it sound cool. Tempest

+save2600
http://www.atarimani...bel=93&step=200 Posting a link like that is no help at all. Yeah, what I gathered was Atari thought these particular games might be better suited for those involved in Special Ed(ucation) or something. +SpiceWare
Posting a link like that is no help at all. Doesn't it answer the question "how many specials are out there?" from the first post

Doesn't it answer the question "how many specials are out there?" from the first post It may answer the question of how many he knows are out there. But that is speculation. Doesn't it answer the question "how many specials are out there?" from the first post It may answer the question of how many he knows are out there. But that is speculation. No, it's not. My link shows how many there are known to exist at this very moment, hence the most accurate answer to give right now. In fact, your reply is no help at all. Cebus Capucinis
In fact, your reply is no help at all. Uh-oh, maybe now you will not get the scans of the one or two Special Edition boxes he has that are not on the list.

high voltage
Thanks so I gotta look out for Video Chess, Backgammon and Championship Soccer and I don't want any bickering in my threads, and no 4chan childish behaviour either I have Pele's Soccer which isn't a Special Edition. lanatrzczka
This is an interesting question. I personally have Backgammon, Superman, Championship Soccer, Video Chess, and Casino. Backgammon is shrink-wrapped new, so I'm not going to open that, but I dug into the others and found... nothing. None of the catridges mention anything about Special Edition, nor do the Game Program Instructions nor do the Video Computer System Catalogs. It's only on the front and rear of the boxes. Of note, Champoinship Soccer's box DOES have a gold sticker on the front that says, "Pele's Champoinship Soccer This Game Program is personally endorsed by Pele." The instructions say the same thing on the cover page. The Superman box mentions the DC Comics trademark, as does the instruction booklet as well. I thought that maybe SE had something to do with licensing, but since Pac Man and Space Invaders are not SE, I figure that theory's out. But it was fun going through the games! Love that box art... Ranthulfr
I would've guessed that the Superman "Special Edition" was the one that came with the wallet. But maybe not. I'm not sure what would make the others special. Geez, there must be SOMETHING.
Rom Hunter
Uh-oh, maybe now you will not get the scans of the one or two Special Edition boxes he has that are not on the list. Trust me: they would already have been on that list by now.
high voltage
I just seen in my collection that I already own Video Chess Special Edition. I also just purchased Championship Soccer Special Edition. So that brings it up to owning 5 SE. Now where's that Backgammon game?
