Instruction Manuals

I bought two Xbox360 games this week, Gears of War Triple Pack and Star War's Kinect, and was surprised when I opened both to find that neither contained any kind of instruction manual. Both had just a slip of paper telling you where to go on the web to view the manuals.

 

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the lack of manuals in any games they have purchased recently? And if so, is this "no manual included" spread across all gaming platforms?

The Gears of War triple pack has a downloadable PDF. And Kinect Star Wars has a digital instruction manual under the options menu.

 

Kind of sad that game manuals are a dying breed. Heck, Winter Stars has a dictionary for an instruction manual at 26 pages for just English.

assassins creed revelations (360) came with a trifolded cardstock pamphlet.

Vita games have them on the cart as part of the code.

 

The only "paper" you get usually with a Vita cart is just the DLC Voucher!

if we're talking content of the instruction manual rather than just the number of pages, the Castlevania, Lords of Shadow PS3 game is all of 5 pages. One of them is the table of contents and one of them is the warranty. The only thing that makes the instruction manual look like a manual is that it's translated into 3 languages to increase the number of pages.

Halo Wars has a huge instruction manual at 45 pages of pure English.

Yeah, when I bought the new Aliens game for the DS it only had the controlls listed and said 'go here online for the full manual'. WTF is this?

Physical manuals seem to be disappearing for all games, even nintendo ones, where they're only thick because they have three languages in them. Digital manuals aren't bad if they're done right though, like the 3DS ones that you can look at while you're playing the game. For super mario 3d land, the actual manual was just 2 pages, while the digital manual was much longer.

I imagine the game publishers are doing this to cut costs. The sad part is that we will likely see the savings on our end.
