simbalion
Maybe I should have posted this here the first time. I have a 2600jr I got roughly a month ago and was happy to finally have one in the collection. Top was beat up, but it worked fine. I had been playing it this past weekend with no issues and even found another top for it, then yesterday I went to play it before swapping the tops and all I kept getting was a dark grey/black screen of death when I plugged in a a cart and turned it on. Any ideas what happened? I tried swapping power packs and RF boxes to no avail. Tried different carts as well with the same issue.
+Gemintronic
A long long time ago I can still remember how That joystick used to make me smile And I knew if I had my power pellet That I could make those ghosts regret it And maybe they'd be trapped for a while But E.T. made me shiver With every cash-in they delivered Bad news on the sales floor Consumers couldn't take it anymore I can't remember if I cried When I read about Atari's retail slide But something short-circuited me inside The day my Junior died Bye, bye to that Frogger of mine Drove my Chevy over Freeway but the cartridge was spy Hit them good ole boys black and blue in the eye Howling' this'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die Edited July 10, 2012 by theloon
simbalion
Har de har har. That's creative, but not a help. Much more of this type of help and the 2600jr is trash can bound.
Game-Tech.US
I usually have issues with the power switch itself, does the tv flicker when moving the power slider up and down a little? If so its just dirty/corroded/oxidized.
+Gemintronic
Go to the flea market and buy another. Sending it to the local electronics service center would cost more than a used unit so.. Edited July 11, 2012 by theloon
simbalion
I tried cleaning the switches inside, but it still does the same thing. Just stumps me that it was working perfect and then went poof. Atari 2600jr's are very hard to find around here. Used to be common at the flea markets, but that was roughly ten years ago. Yes, it has been ten years since I saw a decent one at a flea market or second hand store around here. Usually you see the bigger 2600 consoles, especially the four switchers and light sixers. Thankfully, I am well set for working 2600s, just was nice to round out the collection.
Game-Tech.US
Do you have a meter to check voltage? Find the 7805, middle leg is ground, left leg should be close to what AC adpter is putting into JR and right leg should be 5 volts. I'm pretty sure there's no fuse in the JR, but the main cap could have failed...
simbalion
I'll have to check the voltage when I get a chance. Got power, the LED is lighting and the screen on the TV goes from static to just black.
