Tempest
Has anyone here ever done the Odyssey 2 composite video mod? I had this done over the weekend, and while the picture looks great, the colors are rather dark. Is this a common problem with the mod? Is there a way to fix this? It's playable, but it's kind of annoying.
Tempest
Thought I'd necro bump this a bit. Still need an answer.
RevEng
I'm not an O2 guy, but I've tweaked mods for pong consoles, the 2600, 7800, and some others. Which O2 composite mod did you do?
Tempest
I think there's only one out there. http://www.the-nextlevel.com/odyssey2/faq/essentials/#51 http://www.lukesande...ssey2-Composite
RevEng
Looking at the O2 schematics, the point they're using for composite video is directly off the color encoder IC... it's likely the IC is having trouble sourcing enough current through the low-impedance TV composite input. Most video mods elsewhere use a transistor as a buffer between the IC and the composite-in at the TV. Check out this O2 mod which incorporates a transistor. There's also a "video level" variable resistor on the schematics which you might try adjusting. (R4) Just mark/note the position before you play with it. Tempest
Thanks for the info. I'll have to look into this.
YAGRS
I'm a little late here, but I modded my Odyssey 2 for composite a couple of years ago with the mod RevEng posted, and it, too, is dark. The video looks best when hooked up to my VCR/DVD player (I think that it amplifies the signal a bit). Here is my blog post about my experience with this mod. I thought that at the time I did my mod I found instructions for a more complex mod on Atari Age, but I can't seem to locate those instructions now. Osgeld
what is the resistance between the center pin of the rca jack and ground
Tempest
I thought I'd bump this again since I just found out where I misplaced my O2. Anyone out there do fixes to the mod? Soldering isn't my strong suit.
Tempest
After seeing a topic about an RGB mod for the O2, I remembered that I never did get this fixed. Help!
R.Cade
That mod referenced in this thread will not work well, as noted. It needs a transistor for amplification or impedance matching. I'm sure I've seen another one floating around that does this.
