Cannibalising a Megadrive Controller lead & VCS Joystick...

I've noticed that a few newer games offer the ability to use the second button on a Megadrive controller for use in-game.

 

I like the idea of having the luxury of 2 buttons in a VCS game but I don't really like joypads very much. I have loads of standard joysticks with multiple fire buttons on them though, of course, the fire buttons are all mapped to the same single function.

 

I thought about buying a Megadrive controller, stealing the cable off it and wiring it up to one of my standard sticks but wiring the Megadrive's B button to one fire button and the C button to another.

 

Do you guys think that would be a problem? Are there any chips inside a Megadrive controller or anything that would add complication to just simply wiring up the connections?

 

Any pointers would be appreciated before I hand over cash for a Megadrive controller.

You'll definitely need the cable for the additional pins. Another common source is Megadrive/Genesis extension cables.

dose that psx adapter mean i could use my kick as logitech wireless controllers on my sega.

Dunno. The mystery here is power draw. Between whatever the adapter sucks and the wireless receiver it may be too much.
