simbalion
Good find! I made Centipede the first cab in my collection when I started. Lately there have been several Centipede uprights for sale around my region.
Godzilla
I'm immensely pleased with the condition (inside and out,) the bezel, the side art and the marque all look very nice Though I do hope there isn't a ton of work to make it work again. Can't beat the $79 price at a local thrift, imho. :-)
RJ
Yah looks really clean not too bad at all! Wow, 1st someone here finds a cab at a garage sale, now you get one for $80. I wish I could find stuff like that around here.
number six
Ahh that is a great price from a thrift. I've seen arcade machines at sallys before but usually its a golden tee marked @ $600 or some other rediculous amount. Best I saw was a 2-play off-road for $150, but I already have an off-road so I didnt buy it and those things are heavy. Anyway welcome to the wonderful world of arcade ownership. Since you are in Jax you should drop by the Florida Arcade and Pinball collectors forum (http://www.villagebbs.com/forum). We have plenty of techs that can help with advice on getting it working. mikeosoft
Awesome machine. Monitor Cap kits, get all of them for every cab you own. Invest in a good Discharge device, watch some YouTube videos on how to safely discharge said monitor. Don't be nervous and get to work. Those monitors will stop shutting off after ten minutes. I can tell you from experience that the symptoms of turning off after heating up or working for a bit is almost always one of two things: 1. Capacitors are shot and traces on the daughter board are bad 2. High voltage turn off circuit is kicking in after 5 to 10 minutes because of the voltage spike due to old caps at are warn out and or heat has warped the daughter board and traces are arching shorting out and the HV circuit is kicking . Both are common problems with arcade monitor hardware of 20+ years old and has taken a Beating. Nice finds, let me know if you need more help. racerx
Centipede cabinets seem to hold up really well. I recently picked up a non-working one as well, and it didn't take much to get her up and running again.
+Random Terrain
Found a switch on the back that says cherry on it that was taped in perma-on, but the tape came off. I re-taped the switch... Somebody popped its cherry?
Godzilla
great info and NICE cabs As soon as I have time to poke at it again, I'll definitely use the advice here Thanks!
iesposta
When you get it working, don't forget to go into service mode and then hit the fire to cycle through the sprites, and you can see the grasshopper! The grasshopper didn't make it into the game. I remember reading about it, and then seeing it for myself in the 1980's. How geek is that? simbalion
I can remember the only issue my Centipede had was needing the monitor recapped. Seems to be a rugged, reliable design by Atari. To find one for the price you did, at a thrift shop to boot, is practically unheard of here in Ohio!
+Random Terrain
If I'm ever able to make room for a personal mini-arcade, Centipede is one of the games I'd try to find.
