shadow460
I paid $1 for the disc at Vintage Stock. I've never owned a super game boy or anything like that, and those screens have long since gotten too small for me to see easily. I think it's high time to revisit my Game Boy collection now! +wood_jl
I paid $1 for the disc at Vintage Stock Such a deal! The disc is worth more than the player, as so many careless people lost them. You're in for some serious fun! That thing whoops the Super Gameboy. The Super Gameboy was really, really cool in its day, however.
shadow460
Heck yeah. For all I care, that disc could be in the GameCube with the lid welded shut.
high voltage
Surely Super Game Boy = SNES Game Boy Player = Game Cube What's the disc, any pics? Ah OK found it: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fitm%2FNintendo-Gamecube-Gameboy-Player-plays-classic-color-and-advance-games-%2F200850158899%3Fpt%3DUK_PC_Video_Games_Video_Games_JS%26hash%3Ditem2ec39a3533
Pixelboy
Back when I had a Game Cube, the GBP was permanently attached to it. I liked it a lot, but I missed the color passwords feature of the SGB. I wish they would have included something similar in the GBP, to edit colors in the old GB games. GideonsDad
I love my Game Boy Player (just imagine what a library that opens: original Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance titles (from Japan too)!), it along with my Wavebird are two of the biggest reasons my Gamecube is my favorite console. Greg2600
Most game colors are interpreted 'accurately' by the player.
icemanxp300
Last Year or so I gave Golden Sun a Whirl w/my Wavebird. Awesome Game. I got stuck at the very end though and have yet to revisit. I don't like to cheat so I wont look up what the hell I'm missing LOL.
SlowCoder
I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a disc. I got the hardware "free" with a GC. Sadly no disc. After that, I'd get some flash carts. I'd imagine, if the disc wasn't required, the player would revive a GC with dead CD drive.
SlowCoder
Has anyone burned a GBP disc from ISO? I'm thinking of getting a miniDVD-R pack and giving it a go. Anything I should know before I attempt? Specs, etc.?
Greg2600
Mini-DVD format won't work I don't think. I recall the Gamecube format is opposite of normal DVD in how it's written to the disc. Alternative is one of those SD-Gecko things that you put an SD card into a Gamecube memory card, but you also need a loader like Action Replay. TheGameCollector
Having a Game Boy Player without a disc I imagine would be equivalent to my situation - I have two wavebird controllers but no receivers for them possibly making them worthless. theredlineboss
Nice score! I lucked out similarly for my GBP - I had picked one up for a buck with no disk and decided to see if a nearby Gamestop had one. The guy said they had a disk that they couldn't sell because they didn't have the player. So I got that puppy for free -Rob
icemanxp300
Yea I'm pretty sure normal cds read from inside out but the GBP disc reads from outside in and I believe it has a verificvation code on the outer ring that it reads thats burned into the disc. Can't remember for sure. I was researching burning one awhile ago as I seem to get them in all the time w/no cds.
thegamezmaster
Congrats on the great score. I've got the gameboy player on all my gamecubes and love it. Great way to play gba, and all the gameboy games! Plus some extra players but no discs. Enjoy! Can't remember for sure. I was researching burning one awhile ago as I seem to get them in all the time w/no cds. That's one of the things I read. There's not really much discussion on it on the web as you might think. Several people wound up going the SD-Gecko route like I said. Luckily, I got a GBP/GCUBE bundle off ebay that had the disc. shadow460
SD/Gecko sounds attractive for when the Game Cube laser finally does fail. IMO, Nintendo hardware usually screams quality, so I'm not betting my the laser failing for a long time. I've read that Game Cube discs are burned partially into the burst cutting area near the spindle hole, and this aids in copy protection. sqoon
For those not in the know, last time I checked you could still purchase GBP boot discs directly from Nintendo's website.

+wood_jl
I looked on their site, and they've been discontinued. Before they were discontinued, however, they cost significantly more than one could procure a used Gameboy Player WITH disc, from Gamestop. Unfortunately. Hence, the disc is worth more than the player.
SlowCoder
I guess they copy protected the disc for standards sake. Can't see why they'd need to otherwise, as you'd still need the GBP hardware for it to work.

Some less, some more. I think it's worth it if you have the dough.
