nesrulz
Beautiful game. I have not played it before. But it is never too late. http://www.atariage....twareLabelID=23 Edited January 12, 2013 by nesrulz
high voltage
Beamrider an excellent game, but David Rolfe hated developing for the VCS. Maybe because of that its so great
lucifershalo
like you said...never too late to discover....
Rom Hunter
IMO one of the best shooters for the VCS.
lucifershalo
IMO one of the best shooters for the VCS. until the homebrew Juno First was released....
iwan-iwanowitsch-goratschin
The artwork of the box is great as well.
fiddlepaddle
I never played this much until I read this. I had played the Colecovision version some, but wasn't that impressed. The VCS version with difficulty switches on A is actually quite challenging.
dustygraves.
yep its pretty good fun! havent beat it yet. also one of the last carts i needed to complete my u.s. set:)
godzillajoe
For some reason I could never get into this game. And I love shooters. Maybe it's time to revisit.
+save2600
Love this game! Always kinda sort of thought of it as a well done Tempest clone. Intellivision version is a must have for the system too.
+Random Terrain
I like the hacked version of Beamrider with no flashing: http://www.randomter...idge.html#hacks
Ian Primus
I love this game. This is definitely one of my favorite 2600 games. Many years ago, unable to find a physical copy of the game, I made one: http://www.atariage....ttach_id=124352 And I still hope one day to run across it. You'd think eventually it would turn up, but it's been a tough one to find. In any event, it's an awesome game, and I really recommend that everyone play it. I know I've spent many, many hours playing it. And, you know, if you run across an extra copy, let me know -Ian
SlowCoder
Never played on the 2600, but love playing it on CV. Regarding the comment about difficulty on the CV, choose a higher level than 1.
Serious
I just recently acquired this game, and I plan to invest some serious time into it. I need to earn the patch.
driph
I just recently acquired this game, and I plan to invest some serious time into it. I need to earn the patch. Same! Just got the cart a couple weeks ago, looking forward to digging into the game.
Rex Dart
Awesome game. One of my top 5 for the system. The fold-out poster (courtesy of this thread) is pretty great too. Beamrider__U_.pdf
Sanriostar
I love Beamrider; it's one of the games I've made a point of getting for every system. But I have one problem: There's too many enemies that can only be shot with the missiles. Only 2 targets (and the spare ships) can be shot with the ring blaster. It make the later levels nigh-impossible.
boxpressed
I'm really starting to like this game as well. I haven't played the 2600 version, and I didn't even know it existed, to be honest. I'm been playing the ColecoVision version, mostly, but it has that bug that sometimes crashes the game when you complete a level. I also have it for the 5200 and Intellivision and am wondering if one version is superior to the other. It seems as though the 2600 version would be even more fun to play if there were a hack that let you play with the paddle or driving controller. EDIT: Forgot that you need two buttons for this game, so paddle is out.
akator
I love Beamrider on every system I've played it on. The graphics, play, controls, everything. It's one of those games I keep going back to.
sprazzi
I tried to load the rom up on harmony cart but it starts on sector 8?
Lentzquest
Difficulty switch needs to be on B.
Rex Dart
Beamrider Easily one of my top 5 on the VCS. Throw the Lynx and Jaguar's libraries in there and I think it still makes top five.
sprazzi
@lentzquest: thanks, i'll try that! Of all the version of beamrider i've tried here's my personal top 3: - atari 2600 - intellivision - colecovision
matt2d2
Anyone know the reason that AA doesn't have the rom for this one?
Rex Dart
Anyone know the reason that AA doesn't have the rom for this one? They don't have most/all of the commercial Activision-published games. Copyright/licensing, I'm sure.
