ColecoFan1981
I'm wondering if anyone could confirm the release dates of every single ColecoVision cartridge that was released? I'd like to think that Coleco would release 10-20 titles per year (and how many per quarter, or every three months, of each calendar year?). For the late July 1982 launch, these were the games that were released initially: 2411 - Donkey Kong (included with ColecoVision console) 2417 - Venture 2419 - Mouse Trap 2433 - Lady Bug 2434 - Cosmic Avenger 2435 - Zaxxon 2443 - Smurf Rescue in Gargamel's Castle 2445 - Carnival Turbo (2413) was released in October 1982 and was included with the Driving Module accessory. Other titles shown in the 1982 brochure that were released later: 2415 - Space Fury (released January 1983) 2439 - Ken Uston Blackjack/Poker (released January 1983) 2422 - Head to Head Football (released January 1984 as Super Action Football) 2423 - Head to Head Baseball (released October 1983 as Super Action Baseball, included with the Super Action Controllers set) Thank you, Ben Edge Edited February 11, 2013 by ColecoFan1981

phattyboombatty
This is a great start to an important list! I was recently looking to confirm the same information in order to compare box-art styles. I want to track changes to each box in chronological order. opcode
Really interesting, thanks for the info, Ben! Looks like Q2 84 was the last good quarter for the CV. And am I the only one who loves Roc'n Rope arcade and was disappointed that the CV port was missing stage 2? Not very popular in the arcades but I played it a lot.... Ah, the good times... VectorGamer
3rd quarter 1983 (July-September 1983) releases: 2446 - Victory 4th quarter 1983 (October-December 1983) releases: 2492 - Slither I thought Slither was the pack-in game for the Roller Controller? Did Coleco release the Roller Controller earlier to support Victory?
ColecoDan
I thought Slither was the pack-in game for the Roller Controller? Did Coleco release the Roller Controller earlier to support Victory? That progression of victory first and slither second would account for why there are some Victory boxes without the roller controller on it. I thought the Roller Controller was required to play Victory?
NIAD
Rmaerz... Yes, the pack-in game for the Roller Controller was Slither throughout the world. Victory was a title that Coleco acquired the rights to fairly early from Exidy... probably as a package with other Exidy titles. I am just assuming the following but all the evidence points to there being a strong possibility that Victory was originally planned as a release for use with the Hand Controller. I say this because why else would Coleco design a box and a label (of which there were small quantities distributed) that has absolutely no mention that it is for use with the Roller Controller. Coleco programmers probably tried in vein to make the game playable with the Hand Controller, but could never come up with a layout that was suitable for the game and then switched control schemes to the Roller Controller as soon as that product became stabilized (numerous proto designs, but not as many as Opcode's SGM ) and headed for mass production. Afterall, they would need a lineup of games that were solely for use with the Roller Controller. Edited February 14, 2013 by NIAD
+Yurkie
Ben where did you get these release dates?
ColecoFan1981
Ben where did you get these release dates? That is exactly what I am trying to ask you. I am still hoping that you guys could correct me on the actual release dates. Like I said, in all honesty I just don't know the actual release dates for every single cartridge except that the Donkey Kong one was released late in July 1982 with the ColecoVision itself. A revised DK cart (16K ROM) was released in the 1st-2nd quarter of 1983. ~Ben Edited February 15, 2013 by ColecoFan1981
phattyboombatty
Well, we can certainly see "what's playing on Colecovision in 1984"! War Games Tarzan Front Line Congo Bongo Star Trek So there's at least a little documentation.
