Newbie needing a little help

Where in the world are you?

If you are in NTSC land you can use a us power supply without any modifications.

If you are in pal land and have an NTSC power supply you will need a voltage dropping transformer.

If you don't have any power supply available to you, you can make your own with a modern power supply that outputs 5volts dc at 1.5 amps or more and a 7 pin din plug.

Or if you are in the USA, best electronics and myatari.com both have new ones available

I'm in Australia, thanks for the reply. Can you give me any more information on making my own power supply?

Sorry is this sounds cruel: But if you have to ask how to make a power supply. You should NOT be making one.

You will have to connect the power supply to mains voltage. This can be VERY dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.

If you really want to build one take an electronics course at your local community college.

The Atari 600XL takes a 5V DC input at about 1Amp to 1.5Amps

Sound advice really. probably safer to get a transformer.

He means a voltage dropping transformer.

And it's really not that difficult to cut the barrel connector off a wall wart and solder on a din connector or find someone who can do it for you.
