marc.hull
CARD COUNT = 29 AS OF 7/10/13 CARD COUNT = 16 AS OF 7/5/13 CARD COUNT = 8 AS OF 7/3/13 This thread is here to get a some what accurate count of who would want to purchase an IDE card or seven and how they would like to receive it (IE card only, card and components or built out unit.) Please only use it for that purpose. Detail info can be found here... http://atariage.com/...78360-ide-card/ FYI the card is not very economical to do unless we can get it in the 40-60 pieces range so commit today and commit big !.... There are a couple (IIRC) components that need to be sourced so I would think that planning on including them with the bare boards would be a good idea. Cost of the project will be.... cost of the project. No one is making money on it but no one is going to be out money either. The cost of prototyping and design checking will be rolled into the price of the card. Typical PEB cards in the 40 piece range will be around $25.00 USD. Component cost around (guessing) $30-80 USD. Building for those who need it is up in the air. I would imagine there are those who would be willing to volunteer but the fair thing to do would be to come up with a standard gratuity for those doing the work. It takes time, material and tooling to do it and I wouldn't expect anyone to take that hickey. If you are interested please reply to this thread with the following.... Number of cards you are tentatively interested in (I know cost is a factor but assume they will run about $40.00 to $110.00 USD unassembled. No one will hold you to this.) How you would want the cards (IE card and sourced components only, card and full components or fully built.) If there is interest enough this time then we will proceed. Otherwise table it until a future date. Finally.... James Fetzner is the one doing the conversion and therefore the bulk of the work. He is the person responsible for the layout on several projects including the SID card and the various cart boards that Jon is involved in. If you want to see this board in your PEB then I would hope you give him the props he deserves and some encouragement. Thanks for reading. Hull. Opry99er
Jim has done an awesome job over the years with hardware. The cart boards have increased in complexity and usefulness with each incarnation. My SID card in my PEB has a very nice clean look is very well built. ***As far as the IDE card goes, it would depend on cost. I DO have an HDX interface card (still not plugged up yet, as I cannot find a freakin' db9 F to F null modem cable ANYWHERE in town). Marc, do you think the IDE card could gain enough traction to warrant programming games for it? The HDX card is directly addressable in XB and it is significantly cheaper to build than the IDE card, but it DOES require the serial interface to operate. Nice thing about the IDE card is that it's standalone and with easy access to SD and/or CF. Of course, even if one didn't write games specifically for it, it would make a great development environment... You could have all your tools, all your incarnations of code, etc. right there with lightning fast accessibility. =) It's an exciting prospect! +Vorticon
I'll take one card as a kit, board and parts. I really hope this revival project becomes a reality. Thanks!
RobertLM78
I'd be good for at least one - I'd rather have an assembled unit, but if kits turn out to be more popular I could live with that .
Gazoo
I'm in for 1 kit.
+retroclouds
I am in for 1 card but it should be completely assembled because I am a hardware noob.
TheMole
I would be in for one kit, if any EPROMs or the likes involved are pre-programmed. Don't mind a bit of through-hole soldering, but I don't want to buy a programmer .
+acadiel
I'll take one... if you guys are designing it with through hole components, I'll assemble it myself. If not, and it still has SMT components, I'd like it assembled. (Can you tell I hate SMT stuff? My hands are much too big and I fat finger SMT stuff typically.) snume
I am in for 1, possibly 2, preferrably pre-assembled but kit form will be fine too.
idflyfish
I'm in for 1 as well but I will need it assembled. Actually. I'm in for 2, one assembled and one not assembled. Edited July 4, 2013 by idflyfish
ti99iuc
1 at least for me... i prefer assembled but the kit could be good the same :-)
Gazoo
If someone would like one assembled for them, i could probably help out with a few. Agreement is by the beerware license. Gazoo

+InsaneMultitasker
Put me down for a kit. In one of the other threads, someone mentioned having both a 44-pin connector and a CF connector. Is there space on the board for a CF connector (or two stacked) and if needed, another regulator to power them? The CF card connected to my IDE card just dangles inside the card cage. I've got you down for 5. IIRC the plan was to have 2 headers on the back of the card. One straight and one 45 degree and power the 45 degree on from through holes on the back of the card. That way the CF card sticks out back of the PEB so you can get to it easily and the power wires will be right there. marc.hull
Are these 44-pin headers or CF headers? I remember talk of the CF card plugging directly into the board. 2 x 44 pin headers one at 90 degrees (I said 45 degrees earlier but that is not right. I'll be punished for that later...) This allows an IDE to CF converter to be plugged in at the back of the card.

This allows an IDE to CF converter to be plugged in at the back of the card. Since we're on the punishment bandwagon, what about extending the neck similar to the Horizon 4000 but also extend downward so that you could have the full height of the card 'outside' of the PBOX? It might then be possible to install two CF card 'sockets' and mount them without the adapter. You would probably have a 2" x 6" area or larger, depending on the design. If the idea isn't clear based on my comments, I can try to sketch it for you.

Yeah, I'm still on-board for a kit, assembled or otherwise.

Two CF devices out the back door. heheehehe.....

I didn't research any specific part numbers, this is just to show you the style. Not sure how this compares to the last go around. http://www.lo-tech.c...ech-xt-cfv3.jpg Edit: missed the second link, which has a device similar to one I was planning to buy for my current IDE card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200175&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Hard+Drive+Adapters-_-N82E16812200175 Edited July 7, 2013 by InsaneMultitasker

Not sure how this compares to the last go around. http://www.lo-tech.c...ech-xt-cfv3.jpg Most likely not as the only way you can get that header is in a surface mount variety. I actually bought the XT-IDE card for my.... well XT from the same people and putting that header on was a nightmare and I probably couldn't do it again (or would I want to.) Remember the object to this project is to get rid of the SM parts so that the cards are easier to build and eventually repair.
