Wally1
(I hope) Is there any way to tell whether or not a 600 or 800 XL has socketed chips BEFORE opening it? Such as, a tip, like the ones 'Made in Taiwan', or something like this? Thanks a lot
AtariGeezer
Yep, the ones made in Hong Kong are fully socketed, they have the black label

All my 600XL's are HK's too... Some have the Alps keyboards, look for the brown pcb between the keys as compared to the shiny metal ones... Wally1
that serial # you have is lucky - 777 The Alps keyboards are best I s'pose is it possible for the XL to be made in Hong Kong and socketed but without a black label? Rybags
My PAL 800XL is Hong Kong, fully socketed, white label. Same with my 600XL, fairly sure it's fully socketed.

As far as I know, ALL 600 XLs are fully socketed. But I can´t prove that.

Yes, I have 800XL and 600XL Hong Kong, socketed, with white lable. I think there may be some non-socketed chips, however.
+orpheuswaking
Hong Kong black labels always seem to be fully socketed, the white labels can have varying levels of sockets from full, to just the 40 pin chips... Anything else is hit or miss from none to some.
Wally1
that explains that, then
