Cody_Rock2001
Will this game ever get dumped or is it going to stay as a collector cart for the 50 or so that got their hands on it?
atari181
Will this game ever get dumped or is it going to stay as a collector cart for the 50 or so that got their hands on it? You could ask the owner(wonder007) It is not a finished game either
Wickeycolumbus
If it makes you feel any better, it's probably more fun to look at the screenshots wondering than to actually play the game At least the game is backed up in some form and won't be lost. Thomas Jentzsch
I remember that we had started to make it really playable, but I got lost due to other tasks.
+Nathan Strum
Emphasis on the word "started". We didn't get very far with it if memory serves. It's more of a historical curiosity than anything worth playing.
Crimefighter
There are Youtube videos out there of this game.
Thomas Jentzsch
To make the game more interesting to play I wanted to add some more realistic kite physics. But I never got very far. And since we have no idea how the game was meant to be (with the 2nd stage completely missing) IMO it makes little sense to finish it base on pure speculations. Foxsolo2000
I read somewhere that the 2nd stage was supposed to have Charlie Brown sweeping up leaves that kept falling from the trees. Cant see how they could have made that very interesting for long
Greg2600
Forget dumping, I'm more surprised that none of the many talented 2600 homebrew programmers haven't just written the game from scratch! It can't be that complicated, no?
+Nathan Strum
There's already a kite-flying homebrew.
purduecrum
There should be a bonus level where Charlie tries to kick the football? Perhaps MetLife would have an interest in seeing this game finished?
+save2600
...or claim that they've already secured the rights to the game and threaten with a C&D order. Seems to be all the rage these days!
+Nathan Strum
MetLife is a licensee, nothing more. One of many, it would seem.
Supergun
...since we have no idea how the game was meant to be (with the 2nd stage completely missing) IMO it makes little sense to finish it base on pure speculations. Uh, yeah...well said my friend. Lets just say that a couple years ago someone tried just that with another proto for another system and the results were very ugly. Personally, I feel that "enhancing" unreleased protos, such as in the manner in which 2600 Turbo was handled, is perfect. The buyer gets the original, buggy or incomplete as it may be, as well as a more playable version of what might have been. However, "completing" or "altering" an unreleased proto through pure speculation based on screenshots, game play descriptions, or whatever, is a huge mistake. Wickeycolumbus
I still have hope that a more complete version is found some day. This one was supposed to have been finished. I wouldn't be overly surprised if a more complete version has already been found, and the owner has just kept quiet about it.
7800Lover
I'd like to play the ROM or even a more complete version. It's a shame we didn't see more Peanuts video games. As a Peanuts fan, I did enjoy some of their other (few) releases like Snoopy and the Red Baron (Atari 2600) and Snoopy's Silly Sports Spectacular (NES). missinghiker
Will this game ever get dumped or is it going to stay as a collector cart for the 50 or so that got their hands on it? fwiw there is one of these carts on ebay right now, $209. Auction goes until 12/25. It is one of the ones from the 2012 CGE.
+davidcalgary29
I've never opened my copy. What exactly can one do in the game?
Wickeycolumbus
As far as I can tell, it times you as you move the kite around, avoiding the tree and obstacles. The wind changes every so often. There's not much game to it.
Thomas Jentzsch
Yes, the gameplay is pretty basic. We were wondering how the final gameplay could have become more interesting, but we didn't have a good idea.
+Allan
Did anybody ever try contacting the programmer, Christopher Omarzu and ask him if he remembers? Allan
+Psionic
Did anybody ever try contacting the programmer, Christopher Omarzu and ask him if he remembers? Yes, but he's been living largely "off the grid" in recent years and is a bit hard to get a hold of. He was present at the 2012 CGE according to the guest list, although I was not in attendance so I don't really know for sure.
[d2f]Iggy*SJB
Speaking of, there's one up on e-bay, shrinkwrapped for $200..... I tried to link the auction in the Auctions forum on here, but can't seem to get it to work right.
+Psionic
Here you go... eBay Auction -- Item Number: 291038925033 I'm sure anyone who's looking for it will be able to find it. I could be wrong but I just don't think there's too many people looking to pay $200 for a reproduction of an unfinished "game" with no real gameplay. BONEMAN
Anyone know what it's worth? How rare is it?
