MY WEEK - October 27th-November 2nd

Only Atari 7800 again, with the following games:

1) Midnight Mutants - 60 minutes (due to Halloween celebration)

2) Pac-Man Collection - 130 minutes

3) Planet Smashers - 67 minutes

Midnight Mutants is a Halloween game whose main mission is to defeat all enemies, including the sinister Doctor Evil (a person who imprisioned Grampa inside a plasmic pumpkin), and therefore free Grampa at the Pumpkins Sector. Since this game is too easy to beat and score the maximum value (9,999,990 points, including special bonus by saving Grampa) in my own opinion just because I'm expert, I tried to count the Fastest Time to 9,999,990 points. In the video presented below, I took control of Jimmy, who is me, at 0:00 mark (the moment I started the timer), and in 28 minutes and 13 seconds (using the own timer on YouTube Video), I completed the mission with 9,999,990 points, using MESS which is considered the best Atari 7800 Emulator for me.

It's like April 2011 all over again! After an absence of several years from the charts, Pokemon Red Version suddenly puts up strong numbers to take the top spot this week.

This week's time also vaults Pokemon Red Version into #6 on the all-time list, with its total of 4170 minutes just edging out Worms World Party for Dreamcast (now at #7 with 4165 minutes).

And Park Patrol, at #5 all-time, is only 23 minutes away...

At least a little bit of a contribution, compared to last week:

Atari 2600

Super Breakout: 15 min

Some Paddle action - the game variant with the blocks that constantly lower down on you. Super Breakout really is a huge improvement over normal Breakout.

Sega Master System

Klax: 32 min

First time I played this game on the SMS. I already knew the C64 and Mega Drive versions and picked this one up out of curiosity. It didn't disappoint. Great game on all three platforms. Highly recommended for anyone who likes some quick-thinking puzzle action.

These are my times for this past week (November 3th through 9th)...

TI-99:

Ms. Pac-Man - 13 min.

Robotron: 2084 - 114 min.

Sabre Wulf - 15 min.

Tetris - 5 min.

ZX-Spectrum:

Sabre Wulf - 83 min.

Most of this week was fueled by the TI-99 Programming forum. Rasmus updated his Javascript TI-99 emulator, and one of the programs he included got me hooked... Robotron: 2084, where I finally got pretty far in the game. This game is remarkable for using character graphics instead of the originals bitmapped graphics.

Also I played Ms. Pac-Man on it. There I noticed that on the TI-99 version, the ghosts behave differently than in the arcade... they all seem to run at the same speed (same speed as the player) and have the same AI. This leads to grouping... one one occasion I had three of the ghosts in the exact same place going into the same direction, and I was able to eat them in one spot. They stayed this way for the rest of the board.

I briefly replayed the TI-99 version of Sabre Wulf after some changes have been made in places where I spotted differences to the ZX Spectrum original which I had played before in order to compare it to the new TI-99 version.

Finally, Tetris was another entry in JS99ers software list which I briefly tried because I wasn't familiar with the TI-99 version, but it's nothing special.

My times for the week:

Atari 2600:
Omicron - 2 min.
NES/Famicom:
Destination Earthstar - 18 min.
Hana no Star Kaidou - 16 min.
Master System:
Snail Maze - 6 min.
Game Boy:
Dennis the Menace - 5 min.
Pyramids of Ra - 17 min.
Genesis:
California Games - 54 min.
PlayStation:
Crash Team Racing - 35 min.
Nothing much to report, except that Crash Team Racing has a major case of Luigi syndrome on Hard, and I could really use a Genesis-specific manual (other systems' are available online) for California Games.

Hello there, Pokemon Red Version! With 902 minutes of gameplay this week, and 5072 minutes all-time, it leaps over Park Patrol and Warrior of Rome II to become our #4 game of all time. It's also the first non-VCS game to join the elite 5000-minute club, of which it's now the fourth member (logically enough).

On the pre-crash front, Sword of Fargoal on the VIC-20 just edges out Kaboom for the #1 spot.
