Pulled the trigger, bought a Wii...so now what?

Just modded our Wii recently, with my wife's blessing!!

Our DVD player downstairs died..

Instead of buying a new one, my wife said "too bad we can't use the Wii." AHA!!

So, now we have a modded Wii..

To be honest, its not very impressive as a DVD player, but so far it works. Not very user friendly tho..

But we rarely watch DVDs upstairs anyway..

Also, I got a 32G USB drive and copied our software (mostly Wii Fit type stuff and Wii Play, etc..) to it.

Put USB Launcher GX on the main menu.

THAT she loves!! No messing with disks!!!

Yes, I could have gone the USB external HD route, but I don't expect us to have too much on it really.

I'm not going to try to put every game on there.. ;-)

Just got some cheapo Wii Zappers from China (one is being super glued as I type, but what did I expect for a few bucks. ;-)

Decent feel. Only tried it with House of the Dead and Quake GX. (have to see if I can remap the jump key to one of the Nunchuk buttons, hitting A to jump when in the zapper is a hassle..)

My wife if bummed it won't play CDs. (Yes, I can make them MP3s, but she likes CDs...)

All in all, not bad..

Worth it even if you only copy your games to an external drive..

Try reading user reviews of games. Meaning people that have to buy the game and play it and then decide. That's what I do when trying to figure out what game to buy. IMHO.

Yep, and I also found that looking at the "Let's Play" videos on YouTube help a lot. As an example, I was thinking of getting Splinter Cell for the Wii U but was unsure. So after reading a couple of user reviews and watching a couple Let's Play video's, I knew the game wasn't a purchase for me.

Almost every game has several of these videos where people post videos of themselves just playing the game and I found them to be an excellent resource in deciding on a purchase or not.

One thing I've found to be important with watching reviews is to take the reviewer with a grain a salt.. ;-)

There have been a few times when I watch a review and I end up thinking "that game looks like I will really like it" even tho the reviewer has spent most of the time trashing the game..

(Or vice versa)...

The reviews are a great way to get a feel for the game tho...

And there are some reviewers I tend to agree with, but not always..

For instance, I saw a review of House of the Dead 2/3 for the Wii...

The reviewer hated it.. Said it was old, didn't like the graphics, the voice acting, yada yada..

But watching the game in that review, listening to that voice acting, I KNEW I was going to like that one.. ;-)

(Some people don't appreciate "cheesy" done right!! )

And I wasn't disappointed.. :-)
