After you mentioned software being distributed as DSK images, I thought I'd try to put the ROAD HUNTER disk image in my DOAD directory (so I could clean up my FIAD root). My thinking was I might not have the issue of the maps having to reside in the root if the DOAD directory emulated DSK1. Well, I'm ashamed to admit it, but I have no clue how to access files in the DOAD directory. Everything I've done to date had been from the FIAD directory as HDX1.filename Help! Omega-TI Posted February 11, 2014 Share Posted February 11, 2014 Okay, I've never used DSK2PC, I do all my conversions, copying, moving, etc with TI99Dir. I was kind of hoping I could access that directory or an individual disk image from the TI over the HDX, like I do in the with FIAD directory, I guess not. While I've taken a sector editor to many programs to get them to work from other locations, like the HDX, some programs are just plain stubborn and demand to access some files from the root directory, which can make a 'messy' root directory. It would be REAL NICE if programmers would adopt the convention of giving the end-user the ability to put their own PATH into a program. Just an idea. Actually not such a bad idea given the variety of storage mediums these days. Exactly. I was thinking along the lines of using "CTRL-P" to pull up a path input field in programs. One would just type in the sub-directory of choice, then press enter, that's it. For example I have Road Hunter in under "HDX1.3.", but the maps still have to be in the root at present, an arrangement like this would allow me to put all the files under one directory. If I'm not mistaken, that is how the REMIND-ME! program does it. You know, even as a 'quick and dirty hack' one could compile their programs with a longer path statement, then use a sector editor to edit it down to just DSK1 (before releasing the program). I just got done trying if for the first time...WHAT THE HELL TOOK ME SO LONG! That program is yet ANOTHER in the "HDX suite" of goodies! Okay people, I'm going into full "sales mode" right now... If you have not gotten an HDX board for your TI, you are REALLY, TRULY, MISSING OUT on one fantastic package! I could -NEVER- go back to using a TI without an HDX. Get it, get it, get it!
