+xucaen
So, I've been playing Zool 2, and I actually like it! But there are a couple things I am not clear on.. I've read the instructions but there's no mention of these: In game, you need to collect 99 - somethings - in order to win the level... but the manual does not say what those things are.. I pick up alot of things but I can not tell which thing is making the counter increment. So all I do is keep running back and forth hoping I don't die and hoping my counter goes up to 99 It seems everything I touch dies, but - I would assume that if I am spinning then things die without damaging me - is that true? because I seem to die without ever knowing why. There is no mention in the manual about which things cause damage, how to kill things and how to avoid getting damaged. I know to all you Zool experts these must seem like silly questions, but really I never play platformers and I have never played any Zool game, so I am really baffled by what is killing me and what I am supposed to collect to beat each level. Isgoed
No, those aren't silly questions Zool 2 is as much a shoot'em up as it is a platformer imo. You'll have to move fast, and while doing that you have to shoot fast too! Like you already mentioned, it is recommended to spin a lot when there are enemies. Everything that you can collect (except for the power ups I guess) gives you "credits" until you reach the maximum of 99. At the end of a level is a big "button", which ends the level after you collect it, but you can only do that if your credits are 99.
+xucaen
Another thing that happens is half way through a jump, I stop and fall instead of completing the arc. It's so frustrating.
Austin
^ That means you're not holding the button down long enough. I'm pretty sure Zool will stop his upwards momentum if you let go. As far as the candy crap/icons, it takes a certain amount of them (I don't know the specified amount) in order to make the number in the corner increase. It's not just 1 for 1 (i.e., 99 small pieces to clear a level), it's something like 5, 10, etc to make the number increase. I haven't tried to figure out how many it is, but it wouldn't be hard to figure it out. Just start a new game, then count how many pieces it takes to get to "1", then multiply that by 99. If you get stuck anywhere in the game, I did a longplay of this a few years back. Should help with some of the later stages, or just give you some tips in general: http://youtu.be/W8UBPrfsoVc
+xucaen
Watching the video now. Awesome! Just to be clear... you _can_ kill things by jumping on them? (except for the little turtle shell guys on the first level)
Austin
Just to be clear... you _can_ kill things by jumping on them? (except for the little turtle shell guys on the first level) Yes. However, some enemies take two hits (like the turtle shell guys). If you try to jump on an enemy that requires two hits, you will damage them with one hit, but then they will immediately damage you with one hit. I recommend shooting those guys from a distance, or just jump over them.
Rick Dangerous
The jumping in Zool 2 drives me nuts. It's one of those games where you can't jump high enough to get to where you need to be so you have to back track. Or climb the wall and jump off in the wrong direction 10 times. It slows it down so much it stops it from being as fun as the sonic clone it's meant to be should be. I like it overall but definitely a pain in the ass sometimes. The food theme also grosses me out. Freaking jumping off eggs and such...yeech.
NeoGeoNinja
Seeing as this is quite a recent topic concerning Zool 2, I thought I'd bump it > creating a new topic. - Basically, I sat down and spent a proper hour or two with Zool 2 for the first time ever, yesterday and some of today. Although I'm not ordinarily into "those" sorts of Euro/Amiga-ST style home computer type platform titles (that have a rather obvious scent to them!), I must admit, I've been left quite impressed by Zool 2 so far. That was until, I got to one part of the 3rd stage of Swan lake where you have to traverse the "corn cobs of doom" and, I lost all my lives to simply trying to traverse that one fucking section. A combination of messy jump controls contributing to inaccurate jumps, often resulting in falling onto the "one-way ladybugs of certain death" contributed to a VERY frustrating end of gaming session indeed. I'll give it another shot but, at that point, I was plenty pissed...
NeoGeoNinja
Well, I managed to get past that part relatively easy using a couple of different control aspects: 1. Turn 'inertia' to off in the options #bigdifference 2. Always walk up the way ever so slightly before attempting to jump. Jumping from standstill seemingly brings mixed results. Next up: Casino Zo... Lightbulb Zon... fucking Blue Hill Zone... Blueberry... Bulberry... or whatever!

Hold a button down, then move the d-pad upwards diagonally? Or something like that. Zool 2 has a very specific way to perform certain functions consistently. Once you learn your way with that, you shouldn't get stuck. Or at least, not stuck because you are fighting with the controls.
Cyrus649
Its been a long time since I beat this one... 1 you collect I 99% of the collectables mostly being candies. 2 you can do a spin attack but its easier to just to do a normal attack. 3 the best way to get used to this game is use the cheat code and practice up to the first boss to get the hand of the game and then try it normally.
