bellview17
I am sorry if this is a taboo subject, I am clueless and ask lots of questions. I was reading about the retron5 and is wondering if there is a 2600 system like that one. A 2600,5200,7800 would be cool. I am asking due to being on my 3rd 2600 system in 4 years. I cannot fix anything and have sold them to people who can, but I would like one to just use and play.
+Gemintronic
The closest is a modded Flackback 2 with cart slot. It's not %100 compatible, though. Your best bet is a used 2600 or 7800. Stella is also a good choice if you're OK with playing 2600 games on your PC.
H.E.R.O.
I wish a combo system that did 2600, 5200 & 7800 was available. That would be amazing. You could always look for 2600 Jr's. out in the wild. Surprisingly, my original Colecovision from '82 w/ Atari 2600 expansion module still lives on.
SoulBlazer
There's a new Flashback, the 5, coming out in Oct by AtGames.
sloth-machine
Old Atari consoles are incredibly reliable. Old NES consoles were not...those connector pins... Get a 7800 (2600 and 7800 compatibility).
+LS650
If you are just interested in playing a few favorite 2600 games, the Flashback might be a good option. It has A/V output and contains a large number of the Atari 1st-party games like Asteroids, Missile Command, Yars Revenge. If you want to be able to plug in real carts, you can find a used Atari 2600 on eBay in good shape for something like $35 plus shipping, including some controllers and a few games. +SpiceWare
Besides the Atari 2600, two other flashback units are being released this year - ColecoVision and Intellivision
SoulBlazer
There are FOUR Flashback units coming out in October -- the Atari Flashback 5, the Intelivision Flashback, and the Colecovision Flashback. Also a new Genesis Flashback, but it's not being called that. Final games in the units have yet to be decided. Most people have been linking to the Toys R Us page for pictures and pre-order. I'm sure other places will carry them also. I've hardly ever had any issues with old 2600s, except the power switch getting a little touchy.. But if you're really swearing off vintage hardware, besides the Flashback consoles, there is also the Jakks Pacific TV units: Two Atari ones (one paddle, one joystick) and an Activision one..
