timdu
Does anyone know how to open up a prototype Parker Brothers cartridge that doesn't have a screw in it? Here's a photo of one that I have...
Crimefighter
Hey Tempest, you don't have this one on your 8-bit section...
Tempest
Nope I sure don't. It's the same as the final version (hence the RLS.1) so I'll get to it eventually.
Supergun
Does anyone know how to open up a prototype Parker Brothers cartridge that doesn't have a screw in it? Unfortunately, the only way to open it is by carefully "cracking" it open. (at least that's how my Montezuma's Revenge & Mr. Do's Castle carts were) Reason being those Parker Brothers 400/800 carts are just two halves of plastic shells "heated" together at the factory. It's kind of like a glue so to speak as it creates a bond between the seams that makes the carts appear to be "sealed" that way. You'll have mixed results from cart to cart as some of the seals were tighter & some have held up better then others over the years. I usually begin the process by using a sharp pocket knife & razor blades to carve the trench where I roughly want it to be. Kind of like cutting pieces of plexiglass. The more patient you are with your initial lines and the deeper you go with your subsequent cuts, the better the chances that when it eventually "cracks" or splits, that it will result in an even & uniform split. Granted, I have had some shells split apart almost flawlessly. But others, well, not so nicely. Good luck if you decide to do it.
+-^CrossBow^-
Yeah I attempted to try and open my two 2600 parker protos, but once I found out they were essentially two glued halves...I stopped when I saw one half begin to crack vertically in the center. Figured mine had been dumped and Tempest has them and they've been checked and archived so that was good enough.
Thomas Jentzsch
Why do you want to open it anyway?
