Opry99er
Really cool. Thanks for the tracker update. 26 minutes more of posted playtime and the TI would have unseated the VCS.
Opry99er
Goldenband... I know you keep a large spreadsheet (or several) for these trackers... Any chance I could get a peek at it? I am a nerd for numbers and statistics (why I love baseball) and I would find it fascinating to review your work. If not, no big deal. Thanks again for doing this.
+thegoldenband
Sure! I've been meaning to post it anyway. Here's the most recent one: WHYP 2015 wk41.xls If there are any aspects of the design that seem inelegant, keep in mind that it began as a reconstruction effort. If I had it to do over agaiin I might use a database format, but that has its own hassles. Also, individual weeks are only listed for the current year, since when I start the new year, I only keep the overall 52-week sums of the previous years (for each game). I have week-by-week totals for 2011-2014 in their respective end-of-year spreadsheets, but 2008-2010 are spottier. I have every week itemized for 2009, but the top 10 games don't have week-by-week records; 2008 is only the aggregate total for the year, and 2010 is a mixture (Weeks 1-22 are summed, Weeks 23-52 are individually itemized). Any of these can be uploaded if folks want 'em. BTW one thing I need to add is a data column for pre-NES vs. post-NES. Right now I do that all manually, and it can be a hassle when arcade games fall near the dividing line.

I tried to do my best in Tutankham (another game which I DIDN'T played on the regular weeks of NEW HSC Season 4) and set my personal score as the initial goal: 2,424 points obtained in June 2011, for 2600 OLD HSC Season 9, Round 14 (Variety Pack 5). Highest score obtained by me until now: 2,476 points - if I win this round, I will go to the finals, and the powerful player Northcoastgamer can be my opponent.

Omega-TI
I normally don't spend a whole lot of time on games. but this looks like fun. I have two days off (in a row) next week and I promised to get a score uploaded for the TI Pinball contest... and I want to play a little Alex KIDD and I'll probably also get in a little Road Hunter... so, with any luck I'll be good for at least 26 minutes. Maybe us TI'ers will give the VCS a beat down!

carlsson
After two weeks of zero gaming, and another week before that which mostly was play testing, finally I feel like I'm getting back on track. However unlike the people posting above me, I'll start off light and hopefully gradually extend my play time again. VIC-20: Fourth Encounter - 3 min. Metagalactic Llamas - 36 min. My new highscore on Metagalactic Llamas is 118581 pts, which means my progress since I entered the tracker looks something like this: January 1, 2014: 81420 pts - which back then I considered a great score, as I had not been beyond 65K before May 24, 2015: 93868 pts - change of tactic, sloppy played May 31, 2015: 115524 pts - tactic improved, more careful playing August 1, 2015: 117317 pts October 17, 2015: 118581 pts Apparently my next personal goal will be to exceed 120K.

+thegoldenband
Believe it or not, huge lists of new games are actually very easy to input if the poster formats them consistently, since once I do a bit of pre-processing (replacing certain characters or strings with tabs, basically), it's a simple copy-and-paste job. BurritoBeans's list should be a snap, since we have so few PC-9801 games logged to date. I'll just need to delete any of the games that are already in the spreadsheet (after inputting their times, of course), and then dump the rest of the list directly into the Excel file. It's even alphabetized already, which I appreciate! BTW I use the program TextWrangler to make a lot of this stuff much easier than it would be otherwise. It has commands to automatically prefix a list with characters, or automatically number a list, or replace any string with any others (including invisible characters). My big trick is to copy each week's games into a new spreadsheet, move the system column after the game column, add a blank column separating the system from the time, and then copy the Top 10 into Textwrangler. Since it's a tab-delimited text file, there are two tabs between the system and time, so it's easy to do a quick search-and-replace -- first on two tabs, then on just one -- to get the formatting you see every week. Ergo: NES | Amagon | 137 becomes Amagon | NES | [blank column] | 137 And when I copy that into TextWrangler, it's: Amagon [tab] NES [tab] [tab] 137 Since the tab character in TextWrangler is \t, I do a find/replace on: Find: \t\t Replace with: ) - Which turns it into: Amagon [tab] NES) - 137 Then another find & replace on one tab (\t), replacing it with " (", yields: Amagon (NES) - 137 From there, I just have TextWrangler preface each line with space + period and automatically add line numbers, manually tweak any ties, and that's that. It sounds complicated, but it only takes 5-10 minutes to do the formatting & prep once everything's been input, 15 at the most. It's the data entry itself that takes the most time, of course.

After playing a couple hours, I found the save battery had failed and lost all progress. I'll start again after I repair the cart. In the meantime, I'll putter along with Crystal Warriors. I decided on SOV to see what all the negative reviews were about. I've had it in my box of geni-crap for ages and never really played it. So far, it's not terrible, but it's like playing a game made up of pieces of other games loosely thrown together. kind of like the Edsel of Sega RPG's. The storyline is basic and leaves little mystery. The in-town play is like Phantasy Star, the dungeons like Shining in the Darkness, and the surface monster combat from Hydlide. I would say that today it makes a good pick-up due to the price it goes for these days, but anyone would be better off playing the games it tries to copy instead. if you do play it, make sure you have a good C-button.
