msommer
So I recently moved and of course took my atari and TV with me. When I set up in my new place, the picture quality was terrible where before it was near perfect. When I wiggled the wire the quality shifted so I figured that was the problem. But when I opened the atari and tried it with a new RCA cord, there was no picture at all. I've also noticed that seems to take much longer for the picture to show up on the tv than it did before. It takes almost 5 seconds for the picture to appear after turning on the system. Is there anything I can do? is it possible the atari was jostled someway in shipment that has damaged it's ability to output the picture? Can anyone help? Thanks. msommer
Update, I've been able to get some signal out of new RCA cables but the picture is even worse than with the original cable...
+DrVenkman
Sounds like the RF modulator itself is failing. What model of machine do you have?
+RichG1972
Also another even better question is, is the thickness of the NEW cable equal to that of the original? If not the signal will take longer to travel and process. PLus what method of connection are you using to connect to the TV set? I use the standard pack-in switch box
+RichG1972
I have even known some people to try using the auto-switching RF units that some NES and Sega Genesis consoles use......this is a mistake because the 2600 lacks the power to trip the automatic switch, so use a Coax to RCA connector on the original RF cord or the orignal pack-in switch box that has the TV/GAME setting and make sure the new cable's thickness is EQUAL to the original's and not thicker
