daafies
hi all, was there ever a database program released for the TI? i can get by with multiplan but a true database would be nice to have.. thank! david
+Ksarul
There were two powerful databases that had widespread use (and a dozen more that were less powerful, some of which also had widespread use). The most widespread of them all was TI Base from Texaments (a program similar to dBase II in functionality). First Base was the other powerful database program, but not as widespread because it came to market a bit too late--we were losing users in great numbers at that point in time. Of the smaller programs, the Navarone Data Base Manager program was pretty widespread. Some folks also used the IUG's Database 300/600 (or its later incarnation--Amnion's Archiva). There were others, but these were the most common ones that I remember.
atrax27407
There is also PRBASE, CMINDEX, and several other lesser database programs.
Omega-TI
... a true database would be nice to have.. Hey David, It sucks not having a program that you really want or need, so, download the attached .ZIP file. It might work out for you. I have a PDF of the manual, but it's too big to upload to Atari Age, maybe it's available someplace else, if not I'll find a way when I have more time. globeron
PR Base is easy in setup and use. I just tried it using the emulators (classic 99, v9t9) and all works (as PR BASE makes use of a special disk format) but it all worked using the V9T9.dsk format (it is transparent to the emulators). JamesD
It's a shame anyone should even have to ask that about a computer based on a CPU that originated in the mini-computer world.

+Ksarul
TI has its own Archiver program. Most archives of 99/4A data are in that format--and the program runs on a regular 99/4A with 32K memory too. TI Image Tool (on a PC) can also extract files saved in this format. +Vorticon
I've been using Multiplan as a database program, but it is very limited in functionality as a database given that there is no facility to search specific fields, no sorting etc... I'm using it to catalog my electronic components inventory. Omega, could you email me the TI-Base pdf file by any chance? I'd like to give TI-Base a try. BTW, who was behind Inscebot? I would be more than happy to pay for the program.

+Lee Stewart
Fred Kaal's TI99Dir (available on Fred's website from the “Projects” page) also unARKs ARK files by simply opening the file in TI99Dir—just as you would a DSK image. ...lee

daafies
fyi i still could not get that image to work for me. i googled ti-base.dsk and found this one that did work: https://computerarchive.org/files/mirror/ftp.whtech.com/emulators/mess/old/Complete%20MESS%20Geneve%20emulation/mess/software/ti99_4a/disks/TI-BASE.DSK probably something to do with the floppy emulator..
