New video upgrade coming soon!

OK, I've finally decided. I'll go for three NTSC:

2600 (light sixer)

5200 (2-port)

1200XL

What version? Whatever's most complete and easiest to install. Customized to the specific console/computer it will be installed in is A-OK with me.
If more info is needed, just ask.

Ok, had a chance to check all my hardware and initially I will need three NTSC complete.

1 each for the following:

1 - 800 (soon to have Incognito installed)

2 - 130xe's (soon to have Ultimate 1mb installed in each

In the second run I will get the ones for my two 400's.

Thanks,

T.E

Okay, this is what I have so far. If you stated that the board was for a 400,1200XL, 600XL, 800XL, 65XE, 130XE, XEGS, or 5200 and asked for a complete kit, then I put your order in the Plug-in column. If you said it was for a 2600, then I put your order in the Basic column until we can verify which machines it will drop into. The 7800 requires the basic board and I believe the 800 will too. We can revise this as needed. Custom boards have codes for [H] socket header, [J] jumper pins, [T] Green terminal.

The 2600 adapter generates its own video and it's mixed together in the RF section of the 5200. So, you won't see 2600 games through the UAV board which pulls signals directly from the 5200's GTIA.

The best option would be to route both UAV's composite and video from the adapter to the composite jack with a switch. Does anyone know of a schematic for the adapter?

Schematic here you go.

For now, I need to stop taking orders until I see how much progress I make on the existing ones.

By the way, for lower-profile mounting I suggest gettting one the the basic boards and installing one of these in it.

Just clip off one side of the double prongs.

Some quick notes about 2600s...

If you have this sixer board:

or this jr. board:

...you should be able to use the plug-in board.

4-switch units typically eliminate the CD4050. I had to lift the chroma mixing cap in my 4-switch because the heavy load on this signal distorted the signal too much (UAV needs chroma as a decent looking square wave). I'm sure there's a way to preserve the RF signal though, even if we just send UAV's output into the modulator.

For reference, here's the typical 4-switch board:

5200 install

The board fits nicely under the shield. There is a row of resistors behind GTIA. Solder the wire either directly to GTIA pin 21 or to the close end of the far right resistor. The other end goes in terminal 1 (the one closest to the corner).

The one shown in the 5200 install - would that be a complete kit, or a custom unit?

That one is complete plug-in board. It has the green solderless terminal, the configuration jumpers, and the socket header/plug. The only soldering required is 1 wire to get the color signal.

I have (3) 5200s with the low_budget / Electronic Sentimentalities video board. All 3 of them have vertical lines. Vertical lines can be seen using Moon Patrol cart. Write up here:

http://atariage.com/forums/topic/218246-s-video-mod-9-vertical-lines-on-left-side/?p=2859327

I would like to order 1 board for 5200 and if it fixes the issue order 4 more boards (2) 5200, (1) 7800, (1) 2600).

I'll do what I can to make more available.

By the way, I'm keeping this post up to date.

This could be plugged into an 800 using something like:

@Bryan Out of curiousity, does your luma re-clocking cause the chroma and luma to be slightly out of sync? Maybe it doesn't matter in practice? Maybe you resync the chroma signal as well?

The chroma is delayed because it goes through an HC logic gate and a shaping filter that includes an inductor. The delay is about 50ns. The luma clocking delay is controlled by the pot and can be made to match the chroma precisely. For the NTSC GTIA, the best alignment occurs when the pot is about 1/4 turn clockwise. I will verify this value for PAL as well.

Good question, btw. Atari's circuits have paid little attention to the relationship between chroma and luma, and that's why the artifact colors are so different on different machines.
