Bryan
Seems to me like the guy with the gold 800 wins any argument. Gold 800 bitches!!

+davidcalgary29
Does it trump the jewel-encrusted 1200XL?
joeventura
I have never seen a jewel encrusted 1200xl, since I was a jeweler I could easily make this unit a contender.
+Stephen
To think - I just use Armol-All on my machines.

There's a picture of it in the March '84 Antic. It's rather...tacky, to tell you the truth. That gold 800 is much prettier.
Keatah
Tacky indeed. It was done as a promotional piece. They used Elmer's School Glue. However, I'm not sure I'm turned on by the gold foil one either.
Rybags
Looks like a birthday cake. The gold one... look at the cart slot lid in the 3rd pic, it looks like he left some sticky-tape behind and the impression has come through. At least gold leaf though, if he's not glued it on, will come off pretty easily.
Mclaneinc
The gold one is indeed tacky, an 800 is always a thing of beauty but looks a bit hideous in gold leaf, sort of reminds me of the Saudi culture of having any thing and every thing made of gold as some sort ego filled status symbol. At the end of the day a gold tooth brush is just a toothbrush, does the same job as a plastic one but work more melted down. I do however like themed machines if done well, ie like the Zelda machines Nintendo have done in the past so a Jumpman based Atari would be so damn cool.

flashjazzcat
Would look OK if the gold leaf wasn't (inevitably) chipped and flaking off. That's the Achilles' Heel of all these custom designs. Nicer than the minging bejewelled 1200XL, though.
Rybags
Gold or chrome on plastic just looks tacky, full stop. Look at the official gold C64 they did, it's a factory job but still looks cheap.

Personally I liked that test-moulding orange 600XL.

Keatah
That C64 is horrid looking. I suppose the gold leaf 800 would look better if the sharp edges around the right-angles like the System Reset button shield and other areas were covered better. And the Atari logos on the cart door, there's visible plastic right by the label edges.
