Disneyland CA arcade bitd

Recommended Posts

Hi all. So I went to Disneyland last year with some of my buddies. When I was taking a leak, they had gotten fast passes for star tours and gotten in line. Logically, I told them to meet me in the arcade. The arcade was closed with locked doors. Anyone remember what games they had bitd? The time before that they had Pole position, arkanoid, super breakout, battlezone, four fix-it felix jr.s (shame on them), track and field, tron, and a space paranoids.

Starcade is gone? Lame. I wonder if they lost out to all the kids waiting in line, playing on their phones.

Not sure about back in the REAL day, but around 1994 they definitely had Tron. I know that because I got about 200k on it, my all-time high. Man, was I stoked to see my initials at the top of the high score list that day.

Since I'm always curious about arcades, after reading this thread I decided to do some digging, and yes, it appears Starcade is closed for good. I even came across a message board discussion where someone identified himself as a shareholder. If he's to be believed (it is the internet after all) than it's closed and not returning because it's not profitable to maintain an arcade.

That's too bad, as it sounds like a really cool place, especially back in the day.

Last time I went there when there were video games I got to try Dragon's Lair 2 for the first time as well as Space Ace 2.0 which was an updated firmware for the original game with 8-way stick instead of 4-way, and you could also fuck up at the last scene and have to start the whole game all over again. (The scene where you have to chose one of 3 flashing portals at the start of the final scene, if you hit the wrong one it transported you back to almost the start of the game.)

I remember that arcade back when Disneyland wasn't run by tools, yes. I don't remember all the games there but I do remember that they had a Tail Gunner (played that thing a lot), a couple Space Duels (upstairs), pretty sure they had a Rip-Off. Dammit, my memory of that place is blurred into memories of all the other arcades I used to go to. But I remember loving playing that Tail Gunner game because it was so rare for me to find one. I believe they also had both Tron games (how could they not).
