atarimac
All, I have not updated either SIO2OSX or Atari800MacX in quite some time. That is still on my list of things to do, however, I work full time and am also a PhD student, so it is essentially like having 2 full time jobs. In addition, my company recently had a downsizing, and I am now looking for a new job, and job search is also a full time job. The reason I am writing this is that I would like to thank everyone for their support over the many years of the 2 programs development. However, I would urge everyone to not donate to Atari800MacX, nor purchase SIO2OSX any longer. The company I was using for license management and fee collection, Kagi, I am assuming is going out of business. They sent me a check for $137 for fees that had been collected over the last several months. The check bounced several days after I deposited it, resulting in a $15 fee for me, and the company refuses to answer repeated phone calls or emails. For SIO2OSX, posted below is my registration key, which may be used with my permission to unlocked the licensed features of SIO2OSX (license allows longer than 5 minute use). SIO2OSX is now freeware. (I will open source it as well, as time allows). Mark SIO2OSX license key: Name: Mark Grebe Code: SIO-4E28CK-Y6YKK-WU55L-GKHT0-MC1MY-QDG7N-9M

Juggling work and school sucks, I don't know how you do it personally. Especially at the PhD level. I struggle with juggling school and kids.... throwing a full time job into the mix would put me in a mental hospital. The reason I am writing this is that I would like to thank everyone for their support over the many years of the 2 programs development. I thought Kagi was more reputable than that. They've been around almost as long as the modern web. I look forward to checking out the source at some point, I might have to play with it some and learn a little Objective C. Do you have any tips for getting Atari800MacX to build with newer versions of XCode? Thanks again!

If you ever have a chance or feel inclined, please consider helping get it compiling under new versions of the OS and Xcode. Many of us would like to get AtariMacX updated with some new features and bring it closer in line with other emulators.
spookt
Thanks Mark. Been using your software for years and I still love it. Perhaps a link for voluntary donations via PayPal would be an idea? Edited July 30, 2016 by spookt
Level42
It is 2016 and the U.S., the country that sent men to the moon, had Space Shuttles in flight, put up the GPS satellites and started the internet and they are still using CHECKS. Sorry, but I'm always bewildered by this. Checks have been dead and gone here for at least 15 years.... I'd love to donate some money through PayPal directly to you for your programs and yesssssss, I'd love to see some updates too Edited July 30, 2016 by Level42

abbotkinneydude
Hi Mark! I'm still using both ATARI 800MACX and SIO2OSX. I'm very, very appreciative of your efforts. My PPC macs still have life in them thanks to you! +1 for a voluntary donation link on Paypal.

This surprised me too. Maybe they're even gone longer than 15 years overhere. Sincerely Mathy
atarimac
All, I did get notice today from Kagi that they are out of business. Before I release the source for Sio2OSX, I want to finish the process of getting it to build on the current Xcode. I had started that about 6 months ago, as it was easier than Atari800MacX since it doesn't depend on external libraries. I'll hopefully get a chance to do that in the next month or so. I may look at Paypal when I get that process complete. Thanks,Mark
atarixle
How about the support for older Macs, especially PowerPC? As an enthusiast for old computers, I often use my G3 or G4 for use at meetings. Anyway, I bought it this year and it's been worth it at all. Thank you so much for making this product freeware, as I am not the only Power-PC-User here in and around Berlin. Actually it's good news for a few Power-PC-users here.

Actually it's good news for a few Power-PC-users here. I'm pretty sure the current versions still support PPC. The biggest problem is that supporting PPC is getting tough with newer versions of XCode. I know of very little software that still supports anything older than OSX 10.6. Not even modern browsers. If I still used my old PPC hardware it would probably be running straight BSD UNIX (FreeBSD or NetBSD) instead of OSX.

I know of very little software that still supports anything older than OSX 10.6. Not even modern browsers. Current versions indeed do. I have both running on an MDD G4 and it's rock stable. If you're looking for a modern browser for a PPC Mac, the current offerings are: 1) TenFourFox by Cameron Kaiser which runs on both 10.4 and 10.5 (http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/), 2) Leopard Webkit maintained by Tobias which is 10.5 only (https://sourceforge.net/projects/leopard-webkit/). Other alternatives are: Roccat - http://runecats.com/roccat.html SeaMonkey - https://code.google.com/archive/p/seamonkey-ppc/downloads(not sure it's still maintained) There's also TenFourBox which is a stepchild of TenFourFox: http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/box/ It only does 1 site at the time (sandboxed) and it's amazingly fast. If you run a dual processor (G4/G5) or a Quad G5, TenFourFox is probably the most appropriate solution.

The PPC machines I still have are a little more dated than that. It would be painful to update the project for newer XCode versions and still support the PPC machines is what I was trying to get at. It may be possible with some hacks such as this: http://devernay.free.fr/hacks/xcodelegacy/ which integrates the old SDK's, GCC 4 and PPC assembler with the newer versions of XCode. You have to manually download the older XCode releases though. This only seems support through XCode 6.... not sure if it would work with 7 or 8. Pengwin
Just like to add my thanks for all that Mark has done for the Mac users in the Atari community. I too still use Atari800MacX, almost on a daily basis. Unfortunately, due to space constraints, I haven't had a chance to use SIO2OSX for quite some time. Regarding Kagi, I did read on a dev forum yesterday that they have now gone out of business. Damn shame they failed to honour the cheque. 48kRAM
Well, that sucks. According to Kagi's death page, Development Specialists Inc is overseeing all final financials. Looks like their page is http://www.dsi.biz/ Kagi said that DSI would have a Kagi-specific page, and it looks like this might be it: http://www.dsiassignments.biz/case.asp?id=87 Looks like you can file a claim with them. Good luck, thank you for all you've done, and may the Schwartz be with you.
+slx
Thanks for your work and good luck in finishing your PhD and getting a new job. As for the checks, it's definitely amazing that THE first world nation still depends on moving little slips of paper around to transfer money from person to person. (And I'm not talking about Douglas Adams little green slips of paper as it is not about abolishing cash but rather about bank transfers without PayPal.)
