HD access noise for SIDE2?

as an MIO user I'm definitely missing the HD access noise

As an MIO user myself, I never heard PBI I/O sounds. Was this a feature added to later firmware, or are you maybe confusing with the BlackBox?

Edit: or maybe you mean the clunk-clunk sound of the physical HDD head moving when accessed, compared to total silence.

I am very happy to report that after installing v3 of FJC's amaze-balls firmware, I finally have the hard disk sound I've been looking for.  Thank you so much Mr. Flashjazzcat!

Glad you like it. :)

NOTE: The SIDE.SYS, COLLEEN.SYS and various MYIDE.SYS drivers (for stand-alone SIDE HDD operation, etc) included in the latest firmware release have the same HDD IO noise facility, accessed by the '/N' switch. For example, one might edit CONFIG.SYS on the SIDE2 SDX ROM by adding the switch thus:

DEVICE SIDE /N

Then you'll get HDD noise. :)

There's an option in the MIO firmware to turn the beeps on and off.  Not sure what version I'm on but I'm sure someone can provide details (MG?).

Ok tks. I still have the original ICD v1.1. I've burned an EPROM with the later 1.41 I think, but haven't got around to trying it yet.
