+Saturn
That’s the only reason I can't play that game. Yeah, me too. Well, that and it sucks!
Trip_Cannon
It looks great but the framerate goes down once the detail goes up. Who knows if they could have kept it moving like that in a finshed state. Once again, the world will never know.
SteveW
Could someone put the clip in MPEG format? Because it won't play on my Mac. Quicktime won't play it, and the translation software to convert it to a playable form won't make a watchable copy either.

Stone
Jeff Minter was working on the Plus and Classic chunks of this, from what I heard. He lost all his binaries and source in a hard disk crash though Stone
Songbird
I wouldn't be surprised if Atari had Minter working on another classic update like Centipede, but I don't think he was involved with this project. Dark Science was touting it as Centipede 3D (not 2000 IIRC) and had no idea if they would actually get the license or not.
justclaws
Carl, Don't remember if I ever got this on AA somewhere, so here it is... only a year later than promised. Somehow I missed this post before - that's an amazing clip. According to Jeff from Dark Science, this is a clip from the engine running on real Jag hardware, and not a mock-up. It's short, but kind of cool, I think. What did he say happened to the source code? Any chance of him digging it out? I talked way back around Atari's demise to Jeff about Centipede 2000, but his PC port of the RPG never appeared either. Certainly it would be good to find out more about this lost project. Cheers, JustClaws.
swapd0
is this real or a fake? Sorry I didn't see the zip file with this video some post ago... Edited January 25, 2014 by swapd0
JagChris
I dunno. Looks like the Jaguar doing it lol. Totally something I can see it doing.

Willard
I forgot all about this. The depth of Jeff's response was very thoughtful, interesting to read that again.

Lynxpro
Ugh. I can't believe source code is thrown out like that. I thought all programmers were notorious about hoarding everything they code and keeping copies even when told not to. C'mon, live up to the stereotype, peeps!
sh3-rg
TBF that 30% quote seems a little fanciful. What's seen in the video looks nothing more than some of that standard Atari stuff being put to use, even if it was entirely bespoke the results are almost identical, so it's hardly a huge loss. Landscape, a few objects, no collision. Yeah, that's super early pre-Alpha stuff... that's a few steps back from square one on systems with real development environments and extensive libraries to work with. Lynxpro
Having collision detection in a proto that early in its development is a blessing. After all, Black Belt on the 5200 and Missing in Action on the 7800 were almost done yet neither had collision detection finished.

Rick Dangerous
The only person who could have done justice to Centipede 2000 on the Jaguar would have been Jeff Minter. That is a game i'd want to play; especially if he had the same resources as he had when programming Tempest 2k.
