RobertB
In 2012, game programmer Bruce Gottlieb showed the then top-secret game, Unknown Realm, to the attendees at the Commodore Vegas Expo. It was so secret that no one from outside his team was allowed to photograph or videotape his session. The CommVEx attendees saw a potential game full of fun, and they were excited that it was to be released. Fast forward to now... That early version of Unknown Realm is now graduating to the release version, "Unknown Realm: The Siege Perilous", and Bruce is putting it up on Kickstarter. Go tohttps://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stirringdragongames/unknown-realm-an-8bit-rpg-for-pc-and-commodore-64 Available for the Commodore 64 (NTSC and PAL), Windows, and Mac, Unknown Realm is a new, 8-bit, role-playing game in the style of Ultima RPG's. At the above Kickstarter page, you'll be able to see all the details of the game release, including video shots, screenshots, and screen animation. Also at the page, you'll be able to see the many and various pledge amounts to get this game released. As one who saw the early game version at CommVEx, I am excited that Unknown Realm is finally going public. +OLD CS1
That looks pretty bad-ass. I have not been into the RPG genre of games since Pool of Radiance, and this looks quite tempting.
RobertB
I was tempted so much that I made a pledge on the second day of the campaign. RobertB
At the rate the Kickstarter is going, it looks as if Unknown Realm will be fully funded by New Year's Eve! Newsdee
Looks interesting! The cart version is very tempting
FastRobPlus
I backed this too. I'm hopeful they do what they are aiming for - to re-create the feel of an 80's open world RPG.
RobertB
With a little more than 24 hours to go, the Kickstarter campaign for Unknown Realm is now at 168% of its goal. Various stretch goals have been reached, the last one being that all pledgers who have put in over $19 will receive the R.J. Mical parody game that was demonstrated last year. The next stretch goal is $4,692 away, that being an Underwater City Level. For a complete list of the stretch goals, see https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stirringdragongames/unknown-realm-an-8bit-rpg-for-pc-and-commodore-64 Back in California, Robert Bernardo Fresno Commodore User Group http://www.dickestel.com/fcug.htm
BillLoguidice
I would be 100% onboard if not for the exhorbitant pricing on the physical C-64 editions. Hopefully I'll be able to buy a cartridge post Kickstarter at some point.
Mayhem
I believe the C64 cartridge will NOT be offered post Kickstarter.
carlsson
Second hand perhaps, if anyone of those who backed need cash. Though the market price at that point could be hard to determine. Based on how many people backed at each level, at least 300 cartridges should eventually be in circulation. There may be more, if people orded additional cartridges at $84 / $149 each. BillLoguidice
Yeah, it's a shame really. I'll just have to do without, because there's no way the secondary market will be any cheaper than it is now.
Centurion
I took the plunge and ordered the C64 Collectors Edition. It was just too cool looking to pass up! Wasn't an easy trigger to pull(pricewise), but I'm fascinated by this game. Looks and sounds great. Happy I went through with it now. With all the effort going into the game and packaging, I feel like it's a good project to support. I do hope they release another run of cartridges after all orders are filled though. Just so everyone that wants a copy won't have to pay hundreds of dollars on eBay.
RobertB
The Unknown Realm campaign continues! This time it is at https://www.megafounder.com/unknown-realm Next stretch goal is unlocking the Complete Soundtrack by C64 veteran musician Chris Huelsbeck.
