nd2003grad
I'm driving myself NUTS over trying to do this. I've tried several programs, but nothing seems to work. This mainly stems from me having no Earthly clue as to how to switch my 1541 to a different device number. I've tried all sorts of command lines found online to no avail. There are programs floating around, but all links are dead. Anyone have any idea what stupid thing I may be doing? I know how to do it outside of this device issue. Seagull
I think it might be mentioned in the owners manual, if you have access to that, but here's an on-line mention of how to do it: http://www.atarimagazines.com/compute/issue50/221_2_READERS_FEEDBACK_Commodore_Disk_Drive_Device_Number_Update.php
carlsson
You might be better off changing the device number on the SD2IEC. For transferring a D64 on the SD2IEC to a real floppy disk, there may be several programs but I'd first try with CBM-Command.
nd2003grad
Yes, that's what I'm trying to do...either/or...but I can't seem to get this to happen on either device. I've got CBM Command...which seems excellent...but I can't seem to figure out how to set the SD2IEC to anything other than "8."

carlsson
Assuming your SD2IEC currently is device 8 and you want it to be 9: OPEN1,8,15,"U0>"+CHR$(9):CLOSE1 In order to change it permanently: OPEN1,9,15,"XW":CLOSE1 Adjust 8 and 9 (or 10) as required. Of course you can change it back later, so it is not carved in stone even if you set it permanently. nd2003grad
Thank you good sir, I'll try this tonight and if I keep having trouble I'll come back with that.
7800fan
Some SD2IEC has switch for setting ID and some don't. Nearly all of them shares the same basic design. If you can find the manual or schematic for your version, you could check and see if there's anything for setting ID more permanent. The code mentioned above only lasts until you power cycle the drives.
carlsson
The XW command stores the settings to Flash memory so it would survive a power cycle.
nd2003grad
Thanks all...yes, I finally got this to work! Thanks carlsson, as always. Seem like a lot of people have posted the "almost" correct lines.
cjameslv
I just flip the 2 switches on the back of the sd2iec to change drive number.
Seagull
Thanks, Seagull...but I am looking for a more temporary fix just for transfer. No worries, and yeah, thought about that later, that a permanent fix might not be where you were heading. No experience myself, with a sd2iec, but figured more knowledge than me would chime in, and get you set up, and look...it happened! Glad to see!
nd2003grad
I just flip the 2 switches on the back of the sd2iec to change drive number. My understanding is there are many, many models of this unit. Mine has two buttons on top and nothing on the back.

eightbit
Yeah there is a ton! Mine has an lcd on top and a couple buttons on front. Power and 2 dip switches on back of case. Indeed there is. And I know which one you have and where you got it from your description The same guy made this one which I prefer the best due to its wire free nature, and it also had device number change (8,9,10,11) DIP switches:
