+therealbountybob
Hmm SNOKIE makes it's HSC debut, what can I say but I've not got a clue! I guess we've got a scrolling jumping falling-over penguin on out hands I hope some of you shy voters are going to play and post at least one score Links: Fandal. Atarimania Play the full version with the title screen font like this? See comments on atarimania about the differences. Press a key on the title screen to see the scoreboard. Doesn't look like Snokie will keep us too busy - the guys who did Snokie: Yves Lempereur, Alain Marsily are also credited on Flak and Time Runner, so we'll play these too and see how things go. Time Runner looks like Omidor which was pretty decent (we played it a while back). Flak looks like it might be interesting too (fingers crossed). All of these games get reasonable ratings so hopefully everyone will find one they like Flak Fandal, Atarimania - read the review! Time Runner Fandal, Atarimania EVERYONE WELCOME TO PLAY JUST POST A SCORE! +therealbountybob
Forgot to say the current Antic Pod-cast (#42) mentions our recent HSC round Getaway & Kaverns of KFest, and McKong gets a mention (in first 30 mins) New Excel Mag is pretty good too, especially if you like the newer (ported) games. Of course I'd welcome anything Atari from you guys for the next Pro© Mag - we're working on Issue 13, hopefully out next month, just send me some text! Deteacher
Snokie has some challenge to it. With a little work, you can get through to the end. Level 2 (which I've never been able to finish) is the same design as level 1, but much harder. Time Runner is a great game! Can't wait to try Flak! Looks like it's gonna be a fun couple of weeks.

+therealbountybob
Had my first session on all three games, they're all "ok" So for this round we'll have triple tables combined into 1 main table (will become obvious when I do the tables later in the week). Snokie is that pronounced "snow-key" or like in gnocchi?! either way after lots of penguinicide I got to the moving platform with the stalegtities? stalegtights? sta... those falling pointy rock things! 9,940 Time Runner reach phase 3 - 12,162 Flak 19,500 some nice graphics for the trees, gotta keep moving so you cab see the incoming. Deteacher
Small improvement on Snokie: 21,920! Got to the very last part of level 2! Timing is tough on that! Flak: 9,300! Fun "Xevious-Type" game. Edited May 24, 2017 by Deteacher
Fres
I've always liked Snokie and Flak. Never spent a lot of time on them, however. I don't know that I've played Time Runner more than just to try it out years ago. Also, Deteacher appears to be playing a different version of Snokie than TRBB. Thanks Fres From the comments on atarimania it looks like the gameplay is the same so we should be ok: ..."they made a short version just under 16K for 16K RAM machines"... "Short version eliminated the custom font, the top ten high scores, and eliminated the death chime which is annoying anyway."
Deteacher
Snokie: 24,600! I played the same version as TRBB...and I don't care for it because of the little tunes every time you die. I prefer the one I was playing before. It plays exactly the same, without the little ditties.
+therealbountybob
Flak has some nice screens, made it to the 6502 but the 2nd round is pretty tough. Lots of extra men though. I used single firing for the first part and took out just about everything as it came on screen, then held the button in and circled around surviving - this part is quite short before the level ends 47,700 Time Runner - the jumps seem to pause the baddies, you can pass over them sometimes they fall off? I think this may be a bit hard to be fun, their Ai is unusual. 14,543 (4) Snokie - again some nice screens, pure skill game and if you are stuck on a bit, usually it's because you are doing it wrong. Why's everyone so down on the nice little tune? 11800
Deteacher
The tunes are cute...but I'm impatient and I want to get right on to the next life/level. I've never played the "long" version before now, so I guess I'm just not used to it. I can tell you that both the long and short versions play the same, though. with Time Runner, the baddies move in a predictable pattern. The hard part is keeping track of which way each one is going to go. When they are able to make a turn, they have to take that turn. I think Amidar is the same way with the enemy movements. Hope that helps! Edited May 25, 2017 by Deteacher
carlsson
Some early scores from me: Snokie - 7560 pts (got to the stalagtitties and the ball) Flak - 11200 pts (pure luck to get that far!) Time Runner - 4500 pts (placeholder score, hopefully)
Deteacher
Snokie: 43,420! It doesn't get any harder after the 2nd run-through...and you get an extra life every 10k. I was on my 4th run when I lost to a couple cheap deaths. I guess I'll move onto the other games now. Flak: 25,000! Finally got past the hidden turrets...those really suck. Deteacher
Big improvement on Time Runner: 47,041! The difficulty maxes out at level 6. Made it to level 10.

That's a shame as I was liking this game, I guess they would have to program more features to keep it interesting. I think Omidor we played was similar or got too hard at some point. 19,318 Level 5 first tables Main Scoreboard 1st Deteacher 20 12pts 2nd therealbountybob 19 11pts 3rd RedThunder 14 10pts 4th carlsson 13 9pts Snokie 1st Deteacher 42,420 7 2nd therealbountybob 11,800 6 3rd carlsson 7,560 5 4th RedThunder 6,680 4 Time Runner 1st Deteacher 47,041 7 2nd therealbountybob 19,318 6 3rd RedThunder 7,721 5 4th carlsson 4,500 4 Flak 1st therealbountybob 47,700 7 2nd Deteacher 25,000 6 3rd RedThunder 13,500 5 4th carlsson 11,200 4 Round 10: If it's ok with everyone we will go onto new games in Round 10 along with a catch-up and improve scores so no poll this time. +therealbountybob
Deteacher's post Flak: 61,500! Flak 61500.png Made it past the 6502, but I'm not sure if my score should count. You get something like 5,000 points for shooting the 6502, but I died right after shooting it, so my next life spawned right before the 6502, so I was able to shoot it again for another 5k. Overall, I think I shot it like 3 times. While unintentional, it was kind of point scumming. Thoughts? Looks like the level just repeats, but maybe a little harder? Didn't get too far in to tell. I think it's fair enough - all the games are ok but could have been better. I wondered why I got a few extra men so quicky. The 2nd level is much harder so we can say if anyone completes that they are ahead of anyone with a highger score

carlsson
Round 10: I'm thinking of an open round where you can play any number of new games (from 2016-2017) and score 1pt for each one played. How do we locate those games, on our own? It appears that Atarimania has exactly 3 matches for 2016, while Fandal appears to have 115 42 matches of which some might not refer to the release year. For 2017, Fandal has 7 games listed. Are there additional sources, like AtariAge, ABBUC and other places where recent games might be found, not posted on Fandal? If those numbers are anywhere near accurate, one might score some 40-50 bonus points in round 10, not counting improved scores on already played games. I'll post the links and some suggestions, we could have each player can nominating a few games, I know McKong was keen to try Spycat and Treasure Island Dizzy. I'm wanting to try the latest Bosconian and some of those Polish wips Sikor posted recently. Improvements and missed games will be based on how players would have done in the tables. For the new games there could be a lot of points available so might limit this for the top few players somehow. Probably be another 3 week round
carlsson
Perhaps 1 point for each of the first 10 games you try, then 1 point for each additional 5 games, which would max at 18 points or so for anyone going through the entire recent library. That is quite a lot, but would also require you to give up to 50 games a decent try each.
