+cvga
I have a bunch of rare games in my collection now but I didn't even know most of them existed back in the 80s. The rarest game I owned was Tapper. I had a friend who bought Marauder (mostly because his name was Rod) which was probably the rarest game I played. What was the rarest game you actually owned and the rarest game you played?
+save2600
Had Pengo, Snoopy and Atari Video Cube growing up, and believe those were as rare as my collection got until the 90's.

Good_Times
I'm no expert on Atari rarities, learning more every day, so I'd have to say a couple of the Panda games. I remember nothing about the actual games, meaning that they made no impression or sucked, but I do remember a few of us scoffing at those ridiculous labels. We thought that they were homemade efforts at the time, heh. I also remember hearing whispers of the "porno games", leading my friend and I to a neighbor kid's house. We got to see a couple of the little pleather boxes, but never got to play them for fear of his parents catching us. "Hey, but have you played PORKY'S?? Yeah, supposedly you get to see the chick's BOOBS and everything!!"
+McCallister
Waterworld. By that time, I thought it wasn't coming out and then I saw it at Kaybee. Picked it up and actually had a lot of fun with it.
neotokeo2001
River Patrol. Went into a mom and pop type video store and they had a bunch of Atari 2600 games that I never knew existed.

I remember KayBee having tables filled with cheap Atari games. I bought some of them but none ended up being all that rare. I bought a brand new Super Pro Intellivision from Toys R Us around 1989. They tried to talk me into buying a Sega Master System instead but I specifically wanted an Intellivision. I vividly remember several INTV games like Stadium Mud Buggies for sale for $19.99 each. They were out in the open so you didn't even have to go to the booth to have someone retrieve it for you. What did I buy with my Intellivision? Super Pro Football. If only I could go back in time! Tempest
Probably The Earth Dies Screaming. It came with my 2600 when I got it from my uncle. I liked it at the time.
YANDMAN
Zaxxon and Q-Bert. They were the only games i played in the 80's..ever.
Thomas Jentzsch
Probably Riddle of the Sphinx. A neighbor owned it. I remember that I didn't like it very much.
Foxsolo2000
None of them. Got all my rarities from late 2001 onwards once my wife introduced me to Ebay.
Impaler_26
Probably Mangia. I borrowed it from a classmate and i thought it was weird but not too shabby back then. Letting my belly explode always put a smile on my face.
Lord Innit
Demolition Herby, Stargunner and Ram It. Turned out that they were by far the cheapest to buy brand new too. £7.99 compared with the usual £25+.

+Atari_Warlord
The Coleco KidVid. I should dig it out and make sure I didn't leave batteries in it.
ubersaurus
Chuck Norris Superkicks/Spike's Peak double ender. I couldn't usually get it to load up in my 7800, but I do remember getting it working and playing it a few times. I thought both games were cute but entirely inscrutable. Thomas Jentzsch
The Coleco KidVid. I should dig it out and make sure I didn't leave batteries in it. Probably too late anyway.
20ohm20
I still have the cartridge, comic and manual for the Swordquest Waterworld I bought at Sav-On Drugs in Downey, CA in 1986 or 1987 for $20. I didn't know it was rare until years later.
Shawn
Star Wars The Arcade Game is a R5 so that would be the rarest I had as a kid by today's scale. Aside from that all of my childhood collection would be considered commons. Nothing more than a current R3 and a couple R4's at best. Tempest
Star Wars TAG was probably the rarest game I personally bought back then. I always thought it was a really good version and was quite happy with it.
+wongojack
I think Fantastic Voyage was the rarest 2600 game we had and it is not very rare at all.
DrSidneyZweibel
Track & Field, with the controller. I bought it new, in store. They had a ton of these at Kay Bee toys and Child World in MA during the 84/85 "crash". I was taken by surprise at how rare it is now, since they couldn't give these away at my local stores.

jhd
I never really played (or owned) anything unusual when I first had a 2600 between 1981 and 1983. The only slightly less than dirt common game that I played was Airlock by Data Age. A classmate of mine had bought it somewhere; it was not sold at the department stores in my neighbourhood where I normally shopped so that made it "rare" to us.
