Tanooki
I saw this over at neo geo forums, figured it was a better fit here. Someone brought a Sim City NES prototype to this guy not sure if he bought it or not, but it's legit and appears to work. I wonder if it will make it out to the public like Earthbound did a long long time ago. Better late then never right?
mbd30
EERILY SIMILAR.
Punisher5.0
EERILY SIMILAR. She was so annoying. Cool video though. I never knew about this game for NES
Tempest
They finally found it? Neat! I played Sim City on the SNES back in the day because I didn't have a PC at the time.
mbd30
She was so annoying. Cool video though. I never knew about this game for NES I wish the video went into a little more detail. It's only 2:30 and half the time was spent entering the name of the city.
Eltigro
I have Simcity on SNES and SimCity 2000 for the Saturn. Don't really play either of them much, but used to play a lot of the SNES one on an emulator. Fun games, but time consuming. And if you don't have a memory cartridge for your Saturn, one city will take up just about all of your save space iirc.
mbd30
I grew up with Sim City on the PC so never got into the console versions.
jhd
I never played the original either, but I spent MANY hours with Sim City 2000 on the PC. I later bought the PlayStation version -- it was so slow as to be unplayable. Are the other console versions decent ports? It was hard to tell from the video, but it looked like the NES version was also quite slow to scroll, etc.

Tanooki
Here's a little fun something for you SNES Sim City fans. This site in some form has been around probably 10-15+ years and I've maintained the bookmark as the SNES game is truly fantastic. All (minus mouse) the good parts of the PC original with the added fluff, and fun and also so very minor perks 2K had like adding a little extra land to the map, casino's, zoo's, etc. http://www.pnaw10.com/peters-simcity-for-super-nes-guide/sec-041 I started out on the DOS then Windows SimCity too and played it probably too much, but never beyond medium, usually I like it as a relaxing game and not a headache so starting with more funds I liked. The SNES one I only got years later because I stupidly enough thought it would be a dumb downgrade but ended up getting it like 5+ years after it came out and it's fantastic and have kept it ever since. I agree that the PS1 game was wretchedly nasty with the slows and stuff, but an oddball one I actually liked a whole lot was the GBA game. It was more of a SimCity Classic plus though. 2000 angular view, but zero of the underground stuff (pipes, water, subways, tunnels) that the true game has, even electric are above ground poles too. It's a killer fun hybrid and so disrespected you can get it for under $5. The NES one is basically more or less the SNES title probably with some changes due to the weaker system yet likely not much.
CatPix
Who the fuck record in VERTICAL when you're at home and recording a TV?
Video
I have sim city for C=64, now that's bizarre, but still fun. Played a lot on PC, finally got the SNES version and played that the most. Love it, and most strategy/sim games of the era.
derFunkenstein
Who the fuck record in VERTICAL when you're at home and recording a TV? Came here to ask this question. It's very difficult to see what's going on when recording in landscape from the same distance would have solved the problem.
Tanooki
Also would help if they kicked that annoying kid out so you could hear the thing being used too.
Atariboy
As a fan of the SNES game, I'd of loved to have seen this be included on the NES Classic Edition. Hopefully Nintendo of America re-secures the necessary rights someday and considers letting this version out at long last.
CatPix
It could be easy. The right to the first Sim City game code was released under GPL licence, EA don't own it anymore. Only the name belongs to them. So it mgiht be possible, depending on who ported the NES version, to release it without legal troubles under the Micropolisname
Tanooki
I still love firing up micropolis. I just hate how because the Android version is crap and the Windows one is a halfassed release in JAR format requiring Java to be installed to work. :\ The other option is I do own the Classic version windows hates, but it does have DOS and that one (which I think was released free and clear anyway) can be fired up using DOS Box. F34R
krikzz released a mapper update for this on the N8. I'm using v16 firmware. It was tested on v20 rc.
ubersaurus
Awesome! I'd been waiting for that!
F34R
Just for the sake of it, other MMC5 games work with this mapper fix as well. I tested: Castlevania 3 Uncharted Waters Romance of the Three Kingdoms II Laser Invasion
Tanooki
SWEET! I've been waiting on this for like two years now. I kind of archived the game and put it out of my mind because it didn't like the N8. ? I guess I need to grab my SD card and do an overwrite. Tempest
Too bad it isn't complete. Oh well, at least you can screw around with it for a while.

Atariboy
This thread started two years ago? Feels more like last winter to me. Glad to see my Everdrive N8 can play this now. Has there been any work on the SimCity prototype? Was said back two years ago that someone was working on fixing it up to, such as utilizing some features in the code that weren't activated and addressing some issues.
