TemplarXB
How have people run/mounted the RGB cables from the VBXE on an 800XL case? I didn't get one yet, but I'm thinking to just run it through the RF jack -I'd like to avoid cutting the case. If anyone can post any photos it would be helpful.
flashjazzcat
Here's how I do it: The RF hole does need widening a bit, and I do that in a subsequent video.
Rybags
I cut a hole in mine between RF mod and power socket for a DE15 plug - which I chose because I had an existing cable which suited the 1084. I believe some US people enlarge the channel select switch slot but that's not present on PAL machines, plus for NTSC users means getting rid of some stuff on the motherboard. Personally my feeling is you want a proper mount for a monitor socket - cables dangling out just invites an accident which potentially could pull the guts out of your machine. Another nice solution I've heard is people using the existing monitor jack, replacing with an ST type but the sockets are hard to come by, the work would be fiddly and not everyone uses an ST monitor.
flashjazzcat
I'd advise leaving the existing monitor jack where it is, since if your FX core gets nuked you'll need to use the Y/C display to fix it with FC.COM. The DIN13 solution is used in the video above, but it's situated where the RF modulator used to be.
_The Doctor__
Maybe if you let the cat, wife, the whole kit 'n kaboodle as well as the guitar back in the hardware/broadcast room. I think with a little life and music you'll be refreshed new, more rested and ready. Too much hardware repair/rework and not enough of your creative fun side can wear a 'cat down and then there's no fun and you can't rest/refresh.... it's beyond quiet these days. I miss the banter and the twinkle/ gleam in the eye with each victory.. You don't wanna go zombie mode like I've gone! Searchin' for brainz.... brainzzz..... baraaiinz! I've noticed the lack of videos lately. Was hoping you were just taking a break over the holidays.

+mytek
It's all my fault for coming up with the 1088XEL. The darn thing has infected Jon and he can't stop making improvements to the U1MB which is eating up all his free time. I'm afraid I'll have to do an intervention at some point . Seriously though when people see what Jon has done in this regard, they will truly be amazed. I dare say without Jon's effort and creativity, the 1088XEL would just be an alternative re-packaged motherboard and not much more, albeit one that is smaller and designed with hardware add-ons in mind. However combined with his new custom U1MB BIOS it really has become a next generation machine. If Atari had brought out something like this as a follow up to their aging design, it would have certainly been a game changer back in the 90's. Of course we can also thank Candle, Bryan, and Simius for their hardware contributions as well. Sorry for the off-topic chatter
TemplarXB
Here's how I do it: The RF hole does need widening a bit, and I do that in a subsequent video. Thanks. You do really top notch work. I like how you used acetone to smooth out the widened whole - that was exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Out of curiosity, it looks like you've tried just about every expansion for the 8 bits. Any in particular that you've found the most enjoyable? All I have so far is an SIO2SD with my 800XL. flashjazzcat
Not wishing to go back off-topic... I'm sorry to hear that. I've noticed the lack of videos lately. Was hoping you were just taking a break over the holidays. YouTube just gave a big middle finger to all smaller channels (with fewer than 4,000 hours of annual views OR fewer than 1,000 subscribers): https://www.theverge.com/2018/1/16/16899068/youtube-new-monetization-rules-announced-4000-hours Of course YouTube remains hands-down the best video hosting platform, but for those who've invested large amounts of time into their small, niche-interest channels in the hope that content creation might eventually become self-supporting via the attainment of key milestones... forget it.
